Off on a tangent so bear with me. I had looked at Patreon as a way to monetise content. I stumbled on BuyMeACoffee. It's a funny concept but I totally get how it can be lucrative. Anyone else had a look.

Well, eventually, I'd like to monetise some of my tutorials. I've got a way to go on that but had looked at Patreon as a few of my friends use that. Was chatting to a horsey friend about it and they mentioned Buy Me A Coffee as an alternative.

I thought the tipping aspect was interesting and had thought it was a bit grabby but the general consensus was that people do actually like just showing some appreciation for good content.

I've seen a fair few creators use Ko-Fi which is basically the same concept but BMAC seems to be differentiating itself by way of being better value/free? So, assuming it's all legit, the model seems to work - at least for some.

They say they charge a transaction fee when people donate, on top of any paypal/stripe/bank fees.

"Is there a fee to use Buy Me a Coffee?

We don't charge a monthly fee. All features including publishing and emails are free for everyone.

We charge a 5% transaction fee, and creators keep 95% of the earnings. We make money only when you do. We'll never show ads and we'll never sell your data."

So it's just a 5% fee that's charged in this, still not understanding how this works?
