Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd mention CafePress since I haven't seen it listed anywhere on here. If anyone has skills with Adobe Photoshop, you can make a good deal of money selling your designs on mugs and t-shits, etc on CafePress. The site has licensing for a lot of popular movies and shows (like the Hunger Games, Twilight, etc) so you can make things for fangirls. Last year I designed some t-shirts for the upcoming Divergent film and made about $1000 American (£650) over the course of a few months right before the film came out in the cinema. You can't use images from the internet, you have to create your own, but its easy enough to make logos or shirts with sayings on them, etc, and its a nice way to earn a bit of money if you know ahead of time which movies will be popular. Just thought it would be worth a mention! :)

Sounds good - I have heard of cafe press before - didn't realise they have licences for certain things - is there a list somewhere that says what they have? Does it have to be Photoshop -as you need to have a commercial version of Photoshop to be able to make money from anything you design with it. As I would use Inkscape as that can be used to sell stuff :)

You can use any version of PS except Student for commercial use e.g Creative Cloud, Elements.

I doubt there'd be a restriction on what software you can use to design though. As long as you can save it in the required format, that's all that matters.

I dabbled in cafepress about 10 years ago. I found it the same as anything though - you're only going to make decent money if you put effort in to promote your designs.

It doesn't have to be photoshop. Inkscape or any other photo creation software will do. When you go to upload your work it will tell you what format to upload it in. As for a list of licenses, I haven't been able to find one. But if you search on their site for certain movies or shows, it's really easy to determine which they're licensed for. The licensed ones have their own "shop" with a big banner and a list of rules for creating that type of merchandise. I usually dabble around in the hunger games and divergent, so I can confirm there is licensing for those. Other than that, do a bit of searching on the site and see what comes up. Part of it is luck I think, I didn't promote my divergent designs at all, just made them for the right film at right time.
