Ok so I ran out of padded envelopes this week. Made an emergency trip to the local pound shop where I managed to pick up a pack of 5 medium sized ones for princely sum of £1, quite a bit cheaper than WH Smiths or Post office are charging. This got me thinking that it might be possible to club together with other people who need a lot of packaging and make a big bulk order from a whole seller to save on costs.

I've had a preliminary scout around and looks like I can get padded envelopes (not jiffy but ok ones) in the region of 7 to 15p each depending on size and bubble wrap at something like £8 for a 750mm X50m roll. Could also look into boxes and tape if people are interested.

If this is something that would be useful for you then please reply to this thread and if there are enough people I'll look into it properly. Obviously the bigger the order the bigger the savings.

Still only an idea at this stage but would like to see if anyone is interested.

It's a good idea, I'm just wondering how it will work. Do we all chip in £2 between 8 people and then you'll have to ship out the envelopes to us anyway?

Best way is to team up, open an account with a packagin supplier (kite or anything else) buy in bulk for discount, then ship to the others, this way even with shipping cost to each member still comes out cheaper than buying retail.

We buy our padded envelopes on eBay and they come quite cheap - just under 5p each (110mm x 160mm in size). Also next day delivery, works really well.

Hello House, welcome to the Money Shed. I found some wholesale deals that would come in cheaper than ebay if you put in a big enough order, but what kills it is the postage costs of then splitting the order up and posting it out to everyone that wanted it. I binned the idea in the end.

It is high volume product, so delivery would be expensive. The ones we buy on eBay, postage is included.
The cardboard boxes they come in, we cut them into four pieces, they make nice large letter 'padded' envelopes, so nothing is wasted.

I just use Amazon packages for my Ebay sales. It means no waste and theres 5 people in the house so we get roughly 2 packages a day sometimes more. We always buy things and I buy a lot or get a lot of free products and just use the packaging from those. Save me buying any. More profit for me!
