Can we all just agree that unpaid breaks are bulls**t?

A break is not personal time. You're not heading home to watch TV or get the chores done.

You are taking a rest from the first part of the workday to eat etc so that your performance doesn't drop for the second.

Often this break is taken on company premises.

The fact that employers can get away with unpaid breaks is ridiculous to me

Are you talking about unpaid lunch breaks?

Whenever I've come across companies that do that I tend to find the weekly hours a reduced from say 37 to 35 to account for that.

Yeah. Doesn't matter how they spread the hours out, the whole concept is bogus imo.

A lunch break should be considered part of the work day, not personal time.

When I worked for Tesco years ago we got a 15min break in the morning and an hour for lunch. Even the 15 min break was unpaid.

With the increase in minimum wage we will probably see more of this, not less, as companies struggle with their wage bill along with all the other expenses.
