Man alive what a chore..

I've done a balance transfer from a Barclaycard to a Halifax card which is 0% for 36 months

Money have gone over so I go to ring Barclaycard this morning to cancel my account with them - they do not want you to leave do they!

Was offered a reduces interest rate, £50 credit and 0% on balance transfers for 12 months

All I wanted to do was close my account - I mean I did, but it just becomes a chore when they want a back and forth over why you want to leave them

Why is it a chore? I tell people like that I am not interested in their spiel and just to close the account. Simples.

yeah I do all that its just when they offer you £50 credit you wonder if you should stop the cancellation and just use that £50 as it's free

I was almost very rude to a girl at the Halifax through the week when I phoned to cancel my home buildings and contents. I'd already taken out another policy with another provider for half the price and told her that right at the beginning of the phone call. She kept asking me if they could beat the price I'd been given, spoke about "loyalty discounts" and other stuff and wouldn't just cancel the bloody thing!

I know they have to try to retain customers but when you're told upfront that the customer has taken out a policy elsewhere you're wasting your time.

I know. I hate having to cancel anything. They just ignore the fact that you have gone and got the policy elsewhere and still try and get you to renew with them. Can't stand the sales pitch when all I want to do is cancel and nothing else.

I have recently had an incident of terrible customer service at Natwest. That and the fact that their deals on cash ISA's are not worth thinking about.

I like to save and bank in the same place. So I decided to leave them and move elsewhere. I called up last week and asked if it would be possible to get the account closed. The operator asked me to hold the line, and a manager of some description took the call. The gentleman, of course, offered his humble apologies and begged me to come into the branch to talk about it with one of their staff... I left it at that.

Wondering whether to go in and use this leverage to try and profit from the situation rather than go through the hoo-ha of making the change, but I'm not sure whether I'll just get annoyed and walk off anyway just out of principle...
