Hi all,

I thought I would share a few tips on using cash for books websites, in case anyone is interested!

The best payers, IMO, are We Buy Books and Ziffit. Other sites are, of course, available. I tend to open 2 or 3 windows, each for a different site, so I can compare prices.

On entering the barcode or ISBN number, remember to Ctrl + C it before you hit enter so you only have to type it out once. If, by any chance, the book I am pricing is not accepted on the sites, I copy it into an Excel spreadsheet for future use. These websites change their "wanted" lists all the time and what is rejected one week may well be accepted in three weeks time.

You can paste the barcode into each site and determine the best offer for your book. These websites vary hugely in what they will offer you. Go with the site who offers you the best price but do be aware that these sites often have a minimum submission amount.

Steer clear of any company asking YOU to pay the postage! My preferred dispatch option is to print off the label and take to the collection point. A lot of websites will send a label out to you if you don't have the facility to print. There's no need to use any fancy wrapping, I use a cheap bin liner, cut the bottom off and slit the side to make one big sheet.

Which other sites would you recommend and which would you steer clear of?

That's really helpful - thanks

I've bunged a few textbooks on eBay (on a free listing day) but if they don't sell I was in two minds whether to try Amazon Marketplace, or to offload them to one of these sites and get them out of my way (probably the primary objective!). Good to have a recommendation as a starting point

{have some applause}

I work in IT. Mate had work had this book from yonks ago about Microsoft Servers and was looking to sell it.

Amazon Book Trade in thing offered him £30 for a book that is about 5 years old.

Definitely money in books if it is what people are after.

Re the applause/karma thing (excuse me while I light a joss stick) - I think I just found out the hard way that you can't applaud the same board member twice within a short period (or have I just got confused?). I have to wait two hours? Bit of a bummer if somebody has posted a load of helpful stuff all in one go! I'll have to come back later to continue thanking the queen ;)

Yup It is a 1 hour gap between applauding the same member twice.

I may look at changing that as we build up more members.

Have you got any experience of selling books on Amazon at all?

I imagine if you went to car boots and picked up items on the cheap it must be pure profit as long as you know the book would sell
