I love Harvester but they can be a bit hit and miss.

ain't that the truth

sometimes it's great, sometimes both the service and food is total shite

however they have just emailed me telling me I can have a Free Sundae on my birthday next month

I still haven't ever been to a Harvester, I keep meaning to go, we just never seem to get there!

Wetherspoons is like that too sometimes the food is really good for what you pay and other times, not so good! It depends who's in the kitchen on the day I suppose!

I was going to say, it depends who cooks it, but then we all know they don't actually cook anything, it's all straight out of a packet and straight in the microwave!

Hard to see how you could get it wrong, really!

yeah sadly me spending my college years in chain restaurant / pubs kitchens completely ruined for me what I thought was decent food and is in fact like you have said just straight out of a packet and into a combi oven or microwave

Download vouchercloud, it lets you know what restaurants and shops have offers on in the area and also lets you search for your own brands. Ever since I've had the app I've never not used it!

Mostly just for singles or couples, but mystery shopping. I got £40 to spend on a meal for 2 last week.

wetherspoons actually have decent steaks if you go on steak Tuesday's and they're a reasonable price too :)

Has anyone found any clever ways to eat out on the cheap, other than mystery shopping the restaurant?

We go to Wetherspoons and also look out for early bird deals

Most Wetherspoons are the best option with regards to cheapness. Me and my wife can get two meals, a large glass of red wine and a pint of Guinness for about £12, as you get a selection of free drinks with most meals. The only thing with JD's is that, the food is basically frozen dressed up as gourmet!

I've found that many of the Tastecard, etc offers can be found elsewhere online. If you can get one free they are OK, but I wouldn't pay for one.

Definitely sign up for Zizzi newsletters - they appear to constantly have money off offers for members!
