Do any of you use coupons to cut the cost of your weekly shop? Seriously considering trying this and wondered if anybody can offer any advice?

Thanks x

I have just started using ClickSnap which is part of Quidco I think, I access it through my Quidco and redeem some of the offers. I've only just started doing this though. Its something I intend to do more of in the new year.

I personally don't (find it all too much of a faff!) but I know there are fantastic YouTubers like Holly Vlogs who cover nothing BUT couponing in the UK

I've spent today watching loads of her vlogs. It's definitely something I am going to look into. Probably more to annoy my husband now because when I suggested it to him he looked at me with pure disgust and told me we couldn't possibly be that desperate for money! We aren't but I have set myself some big financial targets and every penny helps! I'd rather it in my pocket than Tescos!

I wanted to give it a go last year and started with a few coupons but it was too much work to find coupons and then I'd always forget to take them to the shop! Lol so I gave up. I just stick to the cashback apps now.

yeah for me it's just too much faff

9 times out of 10 I will use the self service checkout anyway and if you have vouchers it becomes a right chore as they have to get 'Margaret' over who knows how to put the coupons through but she only works every other Wednesday etc....

Hahaha that is so true! It's too long winded for me and not worth it for the sake of a few pence

Yeah I mean I don't even bother chasing reduced items in supermarkets or any of that sort of stuff which is SACRILEGE amongst money bloggers but sod it because I'm 36 and I'm not going to get all giddy over a 20p reduction on own brand noodles in Asda!

Nope I won't do that either! Mainly because I really can't be bothered to go to the supermarket at 9 o clock at night. lol And most of the stuff I wouldn't normally buy anyway!

I use the supermarket cash back apps like CheckoutSmart, TopCashback's Snap & Save and Shopmium when they actually have products I'd buy anyway. I do try and use those "£x off a £y spend" vouchers from supermarkets, and shove them straight in my bag if they come in the post.
Otherwise, most of the vouchers I see are for branded products. Usually, they don't actually save me money - usually, I can buy own-brand or value range for less than branded stuff even after the coupon is deducted.
So if anyone knows where to find vouchers to get money off own-brand stuff, I'd be keen use those!

I see I have found another 'common sense' money blogger here ;)

I always think that as well in that what the hell are they gonna do with 30 packets of fish sauce reduced down to 40p. It's not like they can't keep having it for the next few months without buying the fish and chips they need to have alongside it!

I feel I reached breaking point with this money bloggers trend when I remember a deal for Reduced Tesco Tinned Tomatoes appeared on HUKD as they had glitched and were selling for 1p each and some bloggers were going nuts about it. Saying on social media about how they were sitting in their car outside the supermarket as they tweeted as there was a minimum purchase of like 50 tins at a time. People were getting home and taking photos of their 100s of cans laid out to spell the word TESCO and I just thought IS THIS MEANT TO INSPIRE PEOPLE!

Am I meant to read this and think WELL I BETTER GET UP AND BOTH MOW THE LAWN AND THEN HEAD TO TESCO AND BUY 300 REDUCED TINS OF TOMATOES FOR £3 THAT I DON'T ACTUALLY NEED

It was at that point I knew I would out of the money bloggers fold in the general sense as I just don't agree with promoting sensible spending in one hand and then promoting buying unnecessary food items or whatever that you don't actually need with the other

rant over lol

Oh no, no, no. Do not underestimate the power of small numbers!

Obviously, buying food you won't eat is wasteful - but that Tesco example is extreme.

The reality is that saving all these 20p s, 50 p s, and pounds can all add up. The money saved by shaving a few quid off your shopping bill a couple of times a week can pay for your xmas presents or pay for a similar mid priced annual expense. I would imagine that once you get the hang of couponing, finding reduced items etc you could get quite a good return on your time, although, I suppose it also depends on what else you would be doing with your time.

I agree that lots of small savings do add up and make a genuine difference. I definitely shop on that basis. Think my problem with stock piling and most coupon shopping is when people end up spending way more to get the savings - so to 'save' £5, they had to spend £20 or whatever in the first place.

To be fair, I don't think all money bloggers go in for stockpiling reduced items!
oh absolutely, and it's not even just money bloggers that I see going nuts over 4p reductions on Instagram but just for me, personally, it's something I can never be bothered to chase after

Like @RSK says - Just buy what you actually intend to purchase in the first place and then if one of those items is reduced FANTASTIC if not then FOR CRYING OUT LOUD YOU DON'T NEED A METRIC TON OF TESCO'S FINEST NOODLES!

I do the same to be honest and save quite a bit. I shop at Sainsburys and collect a tonne of Nectar points by reading every single email they send as well as offers on the app to find ones relevant to me.

This week on Top cashback 'snap and save' you can buy bread rolls and get money off (25p CB any brand). I was going to put some in my online trolley anyway and I just need to upload a photo of my receipt to get the money back so it's really convenient. I like the apps a lot more than the paper coupons because I can collect more nectar points (and get double as I am usually eligible for bonus points) and then get the money back into my account afterwards.

Stockpiling on a grand scale makes no sense unless you are planning on donating some to a food bank. There are some people who are genuinely struggling in the community, we need to watch out for each other.

Really agree about donating to a food bank where possible. Just shocking that so many people rely on them nowadays. I took part in a campaign before Christmas called #FoodBankAdvent, and intend to continue donating during the rest of the year too.

I saw a lot of photos from bloggers who supported #foodbankadvent in December on Twitter. It was a brilliant campaign. My local supermarkets make it really easy by having a donation trolley near the front of the store. I do most of my grocery shopping online and think it would be great if there were similar prompts on the online checkout.
