Here is my review of Crypto.com and the crypto app.

I was always a bit sceptical of all things bitcoin but when prices dropped after Covid first hit I decided to get a little bit involved. The product I chose for buying and using my digital currency was crypto.com, because 1, they have a visa card that you can use in any store or cashpoint to pay or withdraw as cash, 2 they have good bonuses and offers and 3 you can earn decent interest on some coins.

When you open a crypto.com account and stake (currently $400) of CRO for 6 months you get access to the following benefits:
* Metal Ruby Visa card paying 2% cashback on all purchases.
* Free Spotify
* Additional Cashback on gift vouchers including Tesco and M&S
* High interest savings
* Plus $25 Bonus paid in CRO for opening the account with the link below.

I've linked my card to my paypal so I get cashback on all my ebay purchases

If you want to go bigger you can apply for the next level up, the jade or indigo card which gives 3% cashback + free netflicks in addition to the above. But you need to stake more a lot more CRO to get this one. If you are mega rich then there are even further levels with more benefits but you need to stake silly money to access those.

Summary of positives and negatives to consider.

Positives
+ $50 sign up bonus (edit: sadly now reduced to $25)
+ sexy metal visa card paying 2% or 3% cashback
+ free spotify, (and netflicks too depending on your level)
+ Extra cashback on buying some gift vouchers through the app.
+ Good interest rates on some crypto - up to 12%
+ Cashback paid in minutes
+ Easy to buy crypto using a debit card or by transferring in from another wallet.
+ Nice, simple to use app. Easy to exchange between coins and send or buy crypto.
+ Very aggressive marketing at the moment is making the company and the coin more popular

Negatives
- You don’t get paid interest on the initial CRO you have to stake. for Ruby, but you do for the higher tiers.
- They don't pay cashback on things like utility bills or council tax. Perhaps I was expecting too much there.
- Open to all the usual risks and fluctuations of holding crypto.
- Customer service is a leave a message and we'll write back to you type set up. They got back to me same day but I'm saying this is a negative as I prefer to have a phone number to ring or at least a live online chat option.
- No guarantee all the benefits will be there forever.
- free to withdraw cash from ATM up to £400 monthly. But a %2 fee applies after.

Referral link - https://crypto.com/app/6ud7nav9r4

The referral code is 6ud7nav9r4 as sometimes you seem to have to put it in manually.

@homie I've just signed up using your link. I've gone for the 50MCO. My daughter is very pleased to be getting Spotify premium. I have my £39.18 ($50) bonus already, It's in MCO so I think I'll leave it there for now (it is unlocked so I am free to spend it if I want).

There's a crypto wallet on the app so you can store various coins. There's a Crypto Earn section where you can earn interest on your crypto coins but there are minimum amounts for each coin. Balances are updated in real time and you can easily buy or sell crypto if that's what you're into.

The whole process was seamless and I'm very impressed with the process and the app. We are going to do all of our day to day spending on this card so should rack up a nice amount of cashback, which is paid regularly.

If anyone wants to use my link it's https://platinum.crypto.com/r/u3qa7uxbpv - we both get $50 bonus if you sign up using my referral code - u3qa7uxbpv - download the app and stake a minimum of 50 MCO (approx £215).

I don’t NEED spotify premium. You can buy a hacked spotify account pretty easily for £2 off various people.. but it would be nice, keeping my own account since they gave me 4 months for £1 and those 4 months have ended..

Wish i had £215 *spare.* so, if i stake it for 6 months, how much will i get back after 6 months?
After 6 months you can withdraw your 50 MCO coins. They could be worth a lot more, or a lot less than you put in as crypto is very volatile. You don’t get any interest on the coins that you staked. If mine are worth less after 6 months than I put in, I’m going to leave them as MCO until the value (hopefully) increases again.

No, but when you stake coins, you usually get more actual coins out of it. That’show staking usually works.

The reward for staking the 50 MCO coins is the increased cashback % and the Spotify. I'm pretty sure you don't get more coins. I'll check later.

So the card came today. It's very nice. However, what I hadn't realised is that I need to top up in crypto, then use the crypto to transfer to the card (you can top up direct with Euros, just not with GBP). So I'll need to just hope the price doesn't go down while I'm topping up I guess! Unless it holds the rate while you transfer to the card... I'll update when I top up.

Update - lost about £1.50 in the process. Could have waited for the price to rise but knowing my luck BTC would have kept going down. I’ll make £19 in cashback once I spend what I’ve deposited to the card so it’s all good. Plus my MCO coins have increased in value (for now).

Sorry for the double post, but I used my card for the first time today. Cashback was credited (in MCO coins) straight away (I can transfer these), and I was credited 10% cashback for the weekly food shop! I found this article online:

10% cashback with a metal card in May and June for a limited amount of stores, including Aldi. 5% cashback for a plastic card. If anyone wants to try signing up for the free plastic card where you don't have to stake any MCO, you will get 5% cashback at Aldi, Sainsburys, Lidl, McDonalds, Dominos, Costco, M&S, Deliveroo... until the end of June (see above link for more).

It's still worth using a referral code (mine's u3qa7uxbpv - https://platinum.crypto.com/r/u3qa7uxbpv ) when signing up for the plastic card - $50 worth of MCO will be locked in your account. You can only unlock it by staking the 50 MCO for 6 months.

The way I've been playing it is to watch the three major coins, if one seems to dip more than the others or lags when the others rise I buy £50 or £100 of that one and hold for a little bit. Once I have a balance in all three, when one of them rises more than the others I convert that one to GBP and put it on my card. So far I have been able to increase the value of my deposit every time, although there is a rising market at the moment so it's not been hard. Everything crypto is somewhat speculative and carries some inherent risk of course.

How do you withdraw the 50 MCO? Do you have to sell it first?

How do you get the Spotify cash back back? Does it go into your crypto account? Does it go on your card? Do you have to use that crypto card for your Spotify subscription first to receive it?

You would have to sell the 50 MCO to withdraw or put it on your card to spend. You only receive the enhanced cashback, Spotify (etc) benefits with 50 MCO minimum staked, so if you withdraw you get to keep the card and just get 1% cashback I think. You would lose the additional benefits.

You have to pay for Spotify with your MCO card, and the amount is credited in MCO each month. The cashback on your card spend is also credited in MCO, I can't remember if that's mentioned above.

I'm pretty sure you can now deposit in fiat GBP (new update) but I haven't tried that yet. I'll update when I've tried that because it was a bit of a pain depositing in crypto and having to convert it back to top up the card.

Email from Crypto.com today:

Following a notice regarding Wirecard UK, the issuer of our cards by the FCA, we have just been requested to stop all activity on our card programs in the UK and Europe. Our customers in those two regions will not be able to top-up their cards or transact later today.

Your funds are safe. Our team is working on processing credits to the crypto wallets equivalent to the fiat balances held on the cards. We expect this to be completed within 48 hours.
Separately, we’re working on transferring the card program to a new provider, so that we can resume the issuing of cards in the UK and Europe and allow existing and new customers to benefit from our card program again.

Neither of my 2 banks (Nationwide and HSBC) are allowing me to transfer to top up my card. I've even tried Revolut and I'm getting a message saying they don't support this merchant. Nationwide wouldn't let me top up at the end of June but HSBC would... Anyone else struggling to top up?
