Hi everyone,
I am a newbie not long joined, and i have been looking for work from home jobs that have no outlay costs and no membership costs etc...
I have been scammed in the past paying for something when it didn't work :( I have been looking on the Internet for home based jobs that are flexible for me as I have children and want to spend time with them as well, but again data entry work, customer service, VA work etc you have to pay to sign up or get referred to elance/freelancer etc.

I am not interested in party plan work (ann summers, bluebella, body shop etc), or forever living, younique, avon, kleeneze, betterware, herbalife or other weitht loss healthy living companies as they are not for me.

I hope you guys can help me find something or can advise me

First and probably most obvious question

How much do you want to earn a month ? (And be realistic)

Also how did you get scammed before?

Approx £400 a month as this would be a top up on my partners wages. There was an opportunity for a training pack which you had to pay for but all it ended up being was selling the training pack over and over. There have been a few others which i had to pay via paypal but thankfully got a refund, so quite cautious.

This is sort of like what I do but it's more content creation than data entry.

The main problem is that this sort of work just doesn't exist any more on a large scale. I used to stuff envelopes for a local private training college - until they got a machine which was cheaper and quicker. Data protection laws mean that companies are not allowed to send stuff off site to have it processed in a private home. The internet means that they can email stuff off to India, the Philippines or Bangladesh and have it entered into computers by people earning $1 an hour.

I have picked up a couple of these sorts of jobs on sites like Odesk or People per Hour but only because there was an added element - for example one client wanted a list of approved wedding venues in a certain area of the UK and I got the gig over a Bangladeshi worker because I knew the area, knew what he meant by "approved venue" and could phone up places to confirm details. This sort of work is few and far between though and lots of people have scraping software which just trawls through the internet looking for email addresses and phone numbers.

Steer away from anything demanding a fee - although you have found that out the hard way. Your only options are the sites like Odesk and Freelancer, or putting together a leaflet for local businesses explaining your skills and offering them ad-hoc admin services for their busy periods. Sort of like getting a temp but without the agency fees.

There are lots of other options for working at home which are not direct selling though, have a browse through the forums and see what appeals to you.

Have you thought about Appen or Lionbridge? Easy to fit around children, they are always recruiting, and you could make £400 a month doing around 20-25 hours a week. Be very wary of any company that wants you to pay a joining fee - pretty much always a scam! and good luck - there are plenty of opportunities out there, it's just a case of finding something that is a good fit for you.

Can you be a bit more specific about what you mean by "data entry"

Sounds like you're after the sort of work that people post on sites like "people per hour"

I'll have a look at it I'm never quite sure how to describe the work I'm offering though.

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone knows of any online data entry work? Naturally I’m not interested in any company that charges you to be on their books. Transcription work is great but I’m looking for something I can do even when I’m not in a quiet place environment.

Personally, I've never seen that kind of work offered online.

Maybe through the likes of PeoplePerHour might have something for you. Or you could offer data entry services on fivesquid etc.
