Here is the standard 'forum whining' thread.

I will start with 2 factors

1 - Manual Account approvals

Manual account approval is something that I absolutely had to have in. There is a reason you see zero spam on this forum compared to the green site and it has nothing to do with popularity. It is because when a new user signs up I do a few checks such as check their IP is in the UK and also their signup details match up correctly (Ie if you sign up with a Sky or Virgin IP address but have an email that is jon@iliveinfrance.fr something isn't right). If I am happy with everything then I approve their account. The software running the forum does a number of checks anyway before it even comes to me for account approval as it has access to a VERY large database of spam IPs and email addresses etc so kills them off straight away. Either way, manual account approvals are here to stay.
If you sign up after I have gone to bed - Then sorry, but I will approve your account in the morning ;)

2 - More Members

Whats the point in having something to say if there is no one to read it?

Driving users to a new site (much less a forum) is a thankless task. For every 5 people I convince to take a look you might only get 1 who signs up and posts. I haven't spent any money on advertising and the contests that we run here are an 'acceptable loss' for me in regards to exposing the site out to more people. I am advertising the site through a number of different channels but it is not going to be an overnight thing (If you think this only really got going in January so we are doing quite well really)

We are also competing against a super giant site who has a national TV person as its figurehead. That is not to say at all that our content is any less valid. I truly believe that when people find our site they are amazed already by the content on here and the community that is growing, it is just trying to get those people to 'stick' with the site and that is something I am working on constantly. More posts on this site = More pages for Google to index.

If any of you have access to any other forums around this area and wish to advertise the site that would be great as well. Word of mouth referral is ten times better than anything else and to be honest quite a few of our members have come via that method.

I may even make a 'Money Shed Champion' user group which would give you a nice gold star next to your name and deposit £5 into your PayPal account.*

*Paypal account thing may not happen ;)

Re the title of this thread:

I hereby declare my LOVE for The Shed :-* !! Well it is Valentines Day after all!

And you whine as much as you like ;D I don't know where you get your energy from - your "real" job, family, dog, online earnings etc etc as well as this site. You're doing a grand job!

Yup.

Bought the site in September I think - Dumped some content on it and then had to wait until I had time to 'invest' in it as I was going after high targets (£500+) a month online at the time and just didn't have the time to do the advertising.

January came around and I had the time and it's sort of steamrolled from there.

In it's first iteration it was actually a very nice looking WordPress blog. However I never felt comfortable in regards to how static a blog is and I wanted a lot of different peoples views on different methods of earning online and I didn't feel I was ever going to get that with a Blog as people tend to wait for something to be said rather than diving in themselves and feeling they can talk about anything or ask any question as you can on a forum. Thus I ripped the content out (literally to a MS Word File) played around with 5 different forum software offerings until I found one that offered the experience I wanted to both give to users and also let me run the site how I see fit.

Re: Re: SwagBucks

Deffo ;D that's so brill RedAlix!!

And pretty please can we be allowed to applaud more than one good post in an hour? Maybe once you've posted more than, say, 50 times yourself? Whenever I log in there's always so much good stuff on here - I feel bad when I can't show my appreciation as much as I'd like.

And another thing (sorry Jon ;)) - please can we have one of those likkle icon things for our Shed bookmark toolbars (Firefox)? I have no idea what they're called or how you set them up though? I do like a pretty toolbar!

Changing how much you can applaud per hour - I have looked into it - I requires quite a bit of code change believe it or not but I might revisit it.

Little Icon (favicon) - I Will look into this next week

Setup and done - Might take you a few refreshes of the page for it to appear but it is there as I have checked with a different browser and you now see an icon for the site.

It's been mentioned to me the idea of having a 'Earning Diaries' on here.

Is that something people would use? If we had them I see it as either a sub forum called 'Earning Diaries' where each user can make 1 thread and then update it constantly with how they are doing.

Or we have 1 sticky thread called called something like 'The Great March Earning Diary Thread' where each user can update that thread with how much they have earned throughout the month and how.

I suppose it might work like those Debt diaries you get on the green site

Thoughts...

Thanks for setting that up and getting it started with your own Diary. It is a great idea and is very helpful for keeping everyone motivated and it is always good to set goals to be able to work towards.

Like very much. I've checked out a few similar sites in the past few days and, pretty much without fail, they've been extremely heavy with affiliate link spam and one-post wonders offering membership to very dodgy pyramid schemes and the like.

This site is refreshingly full of "real people" and genuinely useful advice. Glad to have found the place!

Thanks for the kind words about the site.

Sure I may have mentioned this before but the reason there is NO spam on this site as appose to say, the green site or others is there I personally manually approve each account.

Checks are made by made by me as to where the person is located, if their signup email address is linked through to any known spam issues and so on.

The downside I suppose is that if you join up say 10pm onwards on a night you will have to wait until the morning until I approve you. But I would much rather keep control of the quality of members we have than open the floodgates and just let everyone register without any checks being done.

I love it here so much that I've given up on net mums, I've received much more info and help on here in a few days than I probably would have gotten from net mums in a month!
