I've kept quiet about this until I actually completed the "bet"...so my blog post went live today (full info here http://fromalditoharrods.com/make-money-by-losing-weight-with-dietbet/)

Basically you "bet" on yourself losing weight in a given time period (you can choose 4 weeks or 6 months), and if you manage to do it, you get a share of the prize pot. If you don't manage it then your bet goes into the prize pot.

Anyone tried it?

Don't think this is a good idea at all

people will soon figure out how to 'game' the system and a financial incentive that you may or may not get I'm not sure is enough to keep people going

just my thoughts

Alternatively you could go for the big cash and do this:

http://www.suttoncoldfieldobserver.co.uk/Erdington-man-wins-2-500-betting-lose-weight/story-25806859-detail/story.html

Good idea in theory. I've been losing weight for health/for having a baby but money would probably motivate me too!

I've been doing it for a couple of years on and off. Just finished a game and won a share of $350000 pot which only equated to about $41 per winner. Its a good incentive to lose weight and it does work, but as Jon said, people will and do cheat.

Over the years I've staked $200 and won back $300.

But how do they verify if everyone is telling the truth. Seems like a big, cake sized hole in the idea unless they linked it to a club or something where somebody would independently weight them over time.

Whilst I'm sure it is possible to cheat the system, they require more than one photo of you on the scale, with a word you need to include written somewhere in the photo - that word is unique to you. They then have people who monitor the photographs and look for photoshopping, etc.

I bet you money you will eat it

Do you want me to send you the photo as proof?
