but when you lose weight it comes from all over your body, could be your feet or legs or arms

just using your jean size isn't really going to give you a good representation of how you are doing

Any good dietitian or weight loss 'expert' will tell you that weighing yourself isn't always the best and to take in to consideration clothes and measurements, some weeks you will lose no weight but that isn't to say that you haven't lost. A lot of people on diets focus on the scales and become disheartened (then stop) when they're not shifting but not realising that they may have lost 2-3inches off their body, especially those who do exercise.

Some experts tell you not to weigh at all (or maybe once a month) because you just know when you are at the right weight, and a lot say to ignore BMI as it is a ridiculous measurement.

Jon knows this; he's just being deliberately obtuse. ;)

I agree weight isn't everything. I think people do focus too much on what their weight is rather than what they are losing off the rest of their body.

One of the benefits of Aaron being away, I can have salmon every night with lots of ginger and chilli :D

Tonight it is ginger, garlic, chilli, a trio of peppers, carrot ribbons pan fried with egg noodles and salmon, sprinkled with sesame seeds! It's LUSH!

My keyboard is easy to clean ;) and I wasn't eating over it, I was sat back in my chair. I just put it there while I took a photo using my webcam (phone battery had died).

Anyone else trying to lose weight at the moment? Fancy swapping tips and goals? I could always do with another motivational buddy or five!

I'm 4 stone down and counting, using the MyFitnessPal app. (It's a free app for those who don't know, that logs calories and exercise). I haven't been in the 'red' on my calories (1,200 a day) all year :) Longest time I've ever managed to keep a New Year's Resolution!

Anyone else? :)
Hi Jaded Words

Would you be prepared to share some of your 1200 calorie a day meals plans, if they're nutritionally balanced and not based on slimming shakes or foods that is?, I always find it difficult to get the right balance of nutrients etc but also like to eat real food. I've just put up a thread asking for input about ideas for meals on 1200 calories a day..

many thanks

Well, I don't eat slimming foods/shakes, but I actually tend to eat a bit weirdly and it wouldn't suit everyone... I've just started a job where I stand most of the day, so I need food throughout the day, so on days where I'm working I'll have milk and cereal (with berries if we have any in) for breakfast, a sandwich and fruit for lunch and then something home-cooked for dinner, but I'll have more than 1,200 to play with as I use a FitBit and so will be awarded some exercise calories (although I only eat half of these back).

On days where I'm at home, and therefore only have 1,200 calories, I actually much prefer to skip breakfast (I hate forcing down breakfast, I'm not a fan of eating early in the mornings, but know I need it on days where I'm working otherwise I'll faint!) Then at lunch I'll have a small sandwich, (thinly sliced brown bread with Quorn chicken and some sort of chutney) and fruit. But the majority of my 1,200 calories I'll then use on dinner and an after dinner snack - say, pasta with tinned tomatoes, chopped peppers, onions and some meat, or a veg-packed homecooked curry. My evening meals can be around 700 calories this way, which doesn't work for everyone - I don't get very hungry in the day, but like a big homecooked meal with my partner in the evening. Then I'll have an after dinner snack of whatever I fancy, we tend to get Graze boxes which have lots of nuts/dried fruit etc and I quite often have some of those, or popcorn, fruit, sometimes chocolate if I fancy.

Because I eat most of my calories at the end of the day and don't snack (I've never been a snacker), I don't find 1,200 calories hard to work with, so it's easy to find a nutritional balance by adding lots of vegetables and protein to my big evening meal. Sorry if that's not very helpful, the myfitnesspal forums have lots of advice about spreading 1,200 across the day in a healthy way, which is definitely a more 'normal' way to eat, but doesn't work for me! :)

I tend to do the same, slice of toast for breakfast, salad or soup for lunch, and then I pretty much have all of my calories left for my evening meal. I don't particularly plan it that way, it just seems to be my natural eating pattern

thank you for that, it's always helpful to hear others' methods - it's not easy to play with 1200 calories yet try to keep the meals balanced and healthy...I may take a look at MFP which is probably similar to caloriecount.com

I have such a thing for beetroot at the moment, I'm eating a whole one a day and having to force myself to not get another LOL If only they were a balanced food, I could live off them.
Apparently craving vinegary things is a symptom of candida. According to the Harcombe Diet.

I crave sugar and chocolate. But mainly sugary sweets and stuff. And biscuits and cake etc, which is weird because when I was young I didn't like biscuits or cake - thought they tasted like sugary fat. Now I love them. If only we could turn back time.

I could skip breakfast. Actually, when I'm dieting I force myself to eat breakfast and lunch. When the diet is out of the window I skip them both and drink tea or coffee all day and then have an evening meal. Plus cakes, biscuits, chocolate all evening. Hence the need to diet. It's all or nothing with me.

I wish I could be less obsessed with the scales. In the past week I've gained and then lost 5lb. I can't have done really; it's all nonsense water weight or whatever the science is.

I occasionally measure and surprise, surprise, they don't change as drastically as the weight. So I don't like that so I don't do it. Okay, so my waist is 30 inches. I want 28 inches by my holidays por favor.

I'm a 12-14 but the other way. My massive bum and thighs is what makes me bigger on the bottom. And probably a 12 on the top. So i can fit into size 12 swimming costume or something but then I have thunder thighs hanging out the bottom. LOL.

I was gonna say everyone's weight fluctuates thought the day everyday anyway so weighting yourself every hour of every day is kinda pointless

Yep, I've put on 3lb since yesterday, which is obviously just a normal fluctuation because of water etc. If I had lost 3lb though, that would be a different story ;)
