but when you lose weight it comes from all over your body, could be your feet or legs or arms

just using your jean size isn't really going to give you a good representation of how you are doing

Any good dietitian or weight loss 'expert' will tell you that weighing yourself isn't always the best and to take in to consideration clothes and measurements, some weeks you will lose no weight but that isn't to say that you haven't lost. A lot of people on diets focus on the scales and become disheartened (then stop) when they're not shifting but not realising that they may have lost 2-3inches off their body, especially those who do exercise.

Some experts tell you not to weigh at all (or maybe once a month) because you just know when you are at the right weight, and a lot say to ignore BMI as it is a ridiculous measurement.

Jon knows this; he's just being deliberately obtuse. ;)
I wish I could be less obsessed with the scales. In the past week I've gained and then lost 5lb. I can't have done really; it's all nonsense water weight or whatever the science is.

I occasionally measure and surprise, surprise, they don't change as drastically as the weight. So I don't like that so I don't do it. Okay, so my waist is 30 inches. I want 28 inches by my holidays por favor.

I'm a 12-14 but the other way. My massive bum and thighs is what makes me bigger on the bottom. And probably a 12 on the top. So i can fit into size 12 swimming costume or something but then I have thunder thighs hanging out the bottom. LOL.

I was gonna say everyone's weight fluctuates thought the day everyday anyway so weighting yourself every hour of every day is kinda pointless

True. I am sure I read that somewhere about weighing yourself at the same time of day because weight does fluctuate during the day.

These weights aren't from several points in the day. I weigh myself every morning, after a wee ;D

More often than not you are heavier in the evening than the morning. I always weigh first thing in the morning, since Friday I have seen a 6lb loss (2lb since yesterday) so hoping a) it is still like that for Friday, if not more and b) my tablets continue like this at least until November as that'd be 3 stone loss before BVB ;)

I have noticed that too if I do weigh myself in the evening I am heavier that if I was weighing myself in the morning.
I do weigh myself in the morning usually after a shower and that works out best. :)

At the moment I'm thinking about the photos...I don't want to look terrible like the one I have with Alice Cooper (though in my defence I was working).

Have I missed what your tablets are for Chammy? I saw you mention them before and went off in search but can't find out.

I'm on metformin for my PCOS Stella, one of the symptoms of PCOS is weight gain/difficulty losing it so my tablets seem to be helping me with that. I aint gonna complain either lol

Have you had any side effects with the Metformin? My lady was taking it for a couple of years, kept experiencing dodgy tummies - having to rush for the loo - we thought she had become intolerant to certain foods - she had lots of tests done but to no avail. Then the doctor suggested she stop taking her Metformin as I believe she was taking it for diabetes but they said she was managing that very well and there was no need for her to be taking the Metformin. As soon as she stopped she hasn't had any more dodgy tummy problems and can eat what she likes.

I spoke to another friend who has diabetes and she said the same thing about Metformin, that it gave her a dodgy tummy but she no longer takes it.

I had quite a bad one for the first few weeks, they eased me onto them (1 a day, then 2, then 3) but the past week it has really settled down. I was warned about that side effect but I have IBS anyway so I'm used to it ;)

I am really enjoying using MyFitnessPal to track my calories and see how I am doing. So easy to put in all your food intake too by using the bar code scanner. I have also downloaded Mapmyfitness and done a test walk to see if it would track all the stats ok being in a small handbag. It did and works great importing everything over correctly MyFitnessPal.
Least if you have those it motivates you to do exercise and to see how well you are doing calorie wise. Nice to be able to also see the Nutritional Facts of each item you have eaten so you can see how much you are consuming fat and sugar wise etc.

Today I have been doing so much research into my newly diagnosed condition and I feel I have to make so many changes :( There are so many things I shouldn't be having and so many things that are suggested I should have; it's a lot to take in.

Worst thing is that if I implement it all I could see the weight drop off of me (as well as all the other benefits) but it's removing a lot of things from my diet I really like.

One good thing is that after watching a documentary on the BBC (before Aaron went away) we decided that we do need to make some changes especially with our processed foods such as sausages which Aaron could eat for every meal.

This journey is going to be hard but I've started it so yeah, lets see how I go.

Unfortunately the bad food high in fat and sugar and processed food is hard to avoid.
It is when you start either writing down what you eat or using MyfitnessPal to record what you eat that you can see where changes need to be made.
I like the fact that MyFitnessPal gives you the nutritional content of what you have eaten during the day so I can see where exactly I need to cut down. Less sugar, fat and a bit less carbohydrate for me as well as increasing my fibre intake.
I have IBS anyway so have to watch what I eat. I have discovered that wholemeal flour does trigger my symptoms off so means I am having to avoid wholemeal bread which I love and crave but still I would rather stay permanently pain free for months so it is worth it.
I am having to make up the fibre from eating more fruit and vegetables and salad.
Trying to eat in moderation but still to enjoy life and being able to have the odd treat every now and then is the key. :)

For me I need to reduce carbs and watch the sugar, a low GI diet is recommended and to say it is white carbs (flour) that kicks off my IBS then it's a good thing in that sense. Eating a protein with a complex carbs is a must. There is lots of vitamins I need to look into as I could be deficient in them (especially B-12 and D) so I'm going to book a chat with my GP about them.

I've also learnt that cinnamon is a must so I'm looking into getting some proper cinnamon as I think that would be better than getting capsules.

The top 3 are:

1. Avoid or drastically reduce consumption of processed and refined foods such as white flour, sugar, breads & pasta. Instead eat more whole gluten-free grains like Quinoa, millet, brown rice and amaranth.

2. Drink two litres of water per day. Sparkling water is also an option. You can flavor your water with fresh citrus like lemon to cleanse your liver, cucumber, mint or berries. Infusing with cinnamon sticks overnight aids in balancing blood sugar.

3. Avoid refined sugar, high-fructose corn-syrup, artificial sweeteners and colors, MSG, trans-fats and high saturated fat. Try stevia instead.

The biggest reason, even though my tests show I have no problem with my blood sugar, is to regulate that because that is what can effect my hormone levels which what I'm trying to fix. Also to eat something every 3-4 hours which I can be bad at doing.

There's a lot of weight loss and healthy advice going on here...

I would be prepared for The Money Shed to put up a £100 Prize for who can lose the most weight between Oct - December

Thing is I can't see how to make it a fair contest

You are all probably such different weights anyway and people lose weight at different rates anyway

so help me out here ;)
