Does anyone actually save up for Christmas anymore?

I mean in the traditional sense?

I don't get how you can do anymore unless you are SUPER disciplined?

Stuff for Chrimbo gets advertised from say, September onwards and then we have Black Friday week in November when a lot of people buy stuff but more often than not by the time December rolls around for a lot of families they will have done their present buying already!

Do people wait until December to buy presents and use money that they've saved up all year long.

I remember once year I tried to do that with amazon vouchers I had been earning from Shop'n'Scan all year so I had around £120 or something and I then went and splurged them during Black Friday!

Before 'Internet Shopping' I swear you parents never even asked you what you wanted from the Argos catalogue for Christmas UNTIL December.....

I do a bit of everything - buy through the year, buy online with vouchers, save and shop. Starting the first week in January I start a 48 week saving plan. £12 goes away the first week, then £11 and so on down to £1. I do that 4 times by transferring it into another account and then there is over £300 for Christmas and I do have a day or evening shopping with a friend.

When I did surveys a lot more there were times when I had over £100 for M and S, £100 for Boots, £100 with Next and a few other smaller amounts for other stores just with vouchers.

The reality is I buy a lot less now as various things have changed and with some friends we have a day out rather than buy things we don't really need.

I save some of my Amazon vouchers from surveys, (around £300 at the moment) then do all of my Christmas shopping in one hit mid November - job sorted!

Do you think mid november is where it's at compared to buying in Christmas. Do you think the biggest reductions for the year are around black friday week?

Its nothing to do with Black Friday or reductions for me. I get it all done and dusted in November so that I can spend December entering all of those lovely Advent competitions :)

I used to save up club card points and it was a real life saver for getting Xmas gifts etc but these days club card points are quite useless. I save up for holidays, vet bills and emergencies but Christmas is just part of the normal December spend now. Our Christmas is not that expensive as the children are older and I really don't need any presents, I'm kinda over getting gifts and I'd rather spend the money on decent food!

Yeah we used to do tesco club card points but that was back when they were worth something or you could exchange them for 4x the amount and use them elsewhere. As the years have gone on the offers have got progressively worse I think1

This year I've bought a £15 Amazon voucher on every payday so by Christmas I'll have £180 to spend on presents. I've bought the gift cards that get sent through the post, then store them away so I'm not tempted to spend. It's worked well so far!
