Today I have signed to a few survey sites, some of which seem to be of USA origin, which to be honest always rings alarm bells.

Later on in the evening I received a despatch email from a USA company saying my account has been credited and my order from "deep discount.com" will be despatched upon submission to them of my delivery address. This would be 5 days after my survey completion apparently and is for a software package called Genius Software. The email addressed me as my email address not my name and now I'm panicking like mad. Has anyone experienced anything like this recently please? The company does exist seemingly, but now I darent even access banking or PayPal on my tablet. Thanks for reading.

Deepdiscount dot com seems to exist however genius software on there doesn’t which makes me think it’s just a spam email trying to harvest your details so is best ignored

Many thanks for reply, I wish I could pinpoint which site I had registered on that's prompted this.

Deep discount appears to be an e-commerce site, hence the worded your order. But i would always be suspicious if i never ordered something in the first place.

If i usually want to verify a email I first check the email address it came from, even google the email to see if it is associated with the actual site, If there is a link in the email, hover the mouse over it to reveal the full link. Also you can open the site in question from google and check your account properly "for any said orders".

Another idea would be to use social media or email on company's website to question with them further.

Based on details you provided, I suggest it is probably a phishing email to gain login details, etc (I would most likely delete the email in question).

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for that reply, I hadn't deleted the email but I will do. I'm hoping because I didn't click on the delivery details tab that I'll be ok but who knows. Thanks again for that detailed reply.

I suspect you should be ok, In most cases the email will want you to login to the website in question or provide some details. So unless you did that I reckon you're fine. I'm off to sleep as an early start, but if you need me to check the email, feel free to forward it and i'll get back to you tomorrow. Night

@saffi420 - you can sometimes recover an email you've 'deleted'. It might still be in your 'trash' folder until you empty that. :)
