There are a lot of threads about this on other boards and I just don't "get" it.

The way I understand it is that people list items they don't own or physically have on Ebay for one set price as a buy it now, knowing that the same product is on Amazon for less. The difference between the two prices is their profit.

Is that it, in a nutshell? A wee bit dishonest selling stuff you don't have maybe? Can't see how this business is sustainable either. Plus Ebay fees are crazily high.

There are also specific dropshipping companies that you can sign up to and sell from. The one I know of is dropshipkids.com where they have all the same products as on their wholesale site; except you make less profit, but on the other hand you never have to stock anything at all so have access to a full range of products with no initial payout.

I've heard that its risky business as the order is fulfilled by the company not you but the blame is on your shoulders if anything happens to go wrong. For example, someone orders and pays for a t-shirt from your website that the dropship company has stopped producing and is now out of stock - BUT they haven't told you. There's a real issue for you there as the customer will expect the product from you and will wonder why you offered it in the first place if it was out of stock.

I have several suppliers of car parts that will post directly to customers for me, it saves me keeping loads of stock so it works for me.

I have had the problem where a supplier has discontinued a item with out telling me but if its happened a couple of times I just take their stuff off my website.

I wouldn't join one of these fee based dropshipping companies that seem to sell something of everything as when I looked into it a few years ago I would find people selling the stuff on ebay for only a few pence profiit so didn't really think it was worth it.
