While we're on the subject, my friend my friend buys and sells vintage toys of the 80s and 90s. If anyone has any Starwars, He-Man, Thundercats, Lego or Action Man to sell let me know.

The original rubber keys one, boxed and fully working has got to be over £100 plus more for the games

I've got an Atari 2600 hibernating in a cupboard somewhere. Need to dig that out at some point. Question is - will it work with a modern telly?
Last time I TRIED to use the ZX Spectrum to check it actually worked I had a TV with a bloody Aerial socket at the back of it so could plug it in OK.

I would no doubt need some kind of convertor to run it through now to connect to an HDMI port!

Do you think those sort of branded toys bought in 2022 will be worth much in say 2050?

I tend to think with this stuff that its all about having the original line toys that come out when the TV series did

Hard to say. I don't know if kids are really into those sorts of toys now like when I was a boy. and we all used to run around the playground pretending to be He-man and Skeletor. But I think things from the franchises like Harry Potter and Doctor Who could be sought after in the future by old millennials trying to relive their childhood and collect all the things they never had a chance to when they were little.

Prob worth about £8 lol
Gaming is a big area now and growing, older computers are sort after and do have value

There are some lines that sell out quickly and so have an increased value but much of it is a get in get out market, so buy now and sell as demand increases rather than keeping for investment, but there are still some that can be held and will increase, mainly toys that have limited distribution across the world.

Another great investment is comic books - they are becoming something that large investment companies are looking at. Many of the older books, especially with first appearances of characters (the rise of movies and TV shows have massively help with this), will ensure that certain books will always increase in value and can be a really good way to invest spare money.

Toys have been mentioned and this is a really good time to buy older vintage toys to store away. Star Wars has become an investment opportunity with many people buying bulk loads just to store for retirment as they will increase in value and will always sell.

Just make sure it works and put it back in the loft.

Or, I'll give you £8+postage and you can send it in my direction for the collection! :D

Agree with all of those. I would add to the list: the smart roadster, Audi R8, Civic type R and Mitsubishi EVO. I like the new Mx5 too although there are lots around. Maybe some of the limited edition tuned hot hatches, like the Clio Williams too. Not sure they will ever make versions of electric cars like that.

Which brings me to another point to consider though..... What about availability of petrol in 10 years time? At some point petrol stations are going to start disappearing as demand falls and electric cars take over.
I'm not sure the williams clio would, but I'd offer my right bollock for a great condition v6 clio. That would go in my imaginary barn.

I think I left Scoobys off my list as there are plenty of them, although the Colin M spec'd blue/gold combo would be a nice one for the collection. Same for the Evo....so many I'm not sure what would be the 'one' to keep.

I'd also like the W16 Phaeton as that was mental!

I think the age of the 3 door hot hatch is long behind us.

Which reminds me, I'd add an SR Nova to my barn...but only for nostalgia reasons...I didn't really like them as cars.

I think the mk1 XKR would be a good one to include and probably affordable (just about) for a lovely looking car.

Regarding petrol....it will be around for plenty of time. But the golden age of fossil fuel driving is well behind us.

I need more than 1 hand to count the number of Atari 2600s I've got! :D

It needs an analogue tuner to be able to be tuned in and most modern tellies don't have them.

You will get the best picture from a CRT telly though, so get on your local freecycle/facebook groups as they are always being given away. :)

Remember, it took 30+ years before Starwars stuff got to the value it is today. Not much is going to make a quick buck.

I've got some SW stuff I got from Poundland...for a pound. It is probably a saturated market but I guess if I wanted to sell them then they'd be a fiver on ebay. (just checked - maybe not the biggest profit from them - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/154804112948?hash=item240b0b4e34:g:Z6EAAOSwUVBhqR4T)

I also have a ton of Hotwheel cars purchased over the last 10 years. I don't even know why I have them.

My brother is a 'comic' fan...if it isn't a mainstream comic then I struggle to get interested but he has tons. They are all read though, so not primarily as an 'investment'.

Toy is harder as so much tat is produced it is hard to know what people in the future will want. Movie/Tv franchises the 'kids' are watching today may be a good place to start.

I'm still not convinced on

bobbleheads
Funko pops
and all that jazz

will be in big demand.

I do think that physical gaming media (switch/ps5/xbox) will be in demand in the future as 'digital' is lost.

And, I do say it to lots of people, first edition books of well known authors can be good. I try to get signed first editions (if I can) as I feel I wont lose any money on them.

There is a guy on my local FB selling group is always after this stuff.

He is a dealer though, and I've not got much interest in dealing with dealers.

I think some will - it will depend on what.

I'm not sure if Tamagochis will ever be worth anything! :D

Gaming will always be big. as people get older they want to recapture their youth and have the disposable income to get stuff.

I do look out for more obscure stuff at the moment, but going out on the hunt has been so much harder in the last 2 years (which also saw a massive price increase for 2nd hand gaming items as people were 'wfh' and bored!).

Old PCs don't have much of a market, but I am sad that my parents don't have the IBM XT computer we had growing up...that thing was like from a different universe! :D

see

Nintendo Wii (but not Wii U)
Nintendo Switch
PS5

:D

I saw lots of people buying loads of the PS5 and then struggling to sell at the £1000 price they were asking!

Who wants to tie £5k in PS5 but then spend 6 months trying to sell them!

yes they do

Its not just HP but a lot do.

HP is harder to find in 'the wild' as everyone knows they are worth big bucks so all charity shops/people look out for them.

So unless you already own them, you'll be SOOL.

there is money to be made on these but again more of a short term than long term view, obviously they have created a new craze so in 20/30 years some will have value but they are in no ways something I would put money into at the moment for the future.
