I've tried to sign up for roamler this morning but nothing available at the moment.
Feeling quite motivated on the field agent front so far! Thinking I may even do another task this morning!

do you mean there are no tasks or you needed an invite for Roamler?

Flower tasks appear on a Thursday morning so you might find work then

I expect you will end up wanting to take part in [member=920]katykicker[/member] and [member=258]alditoharrods[/member] earning challenge in August at this rate ;)

I love a challenge! :)

No romaler says to enter a code if I have one.

Just going back to the field agent, does anyone know why it gives you a score (mine says 88?)

Hi all, I'm a newbie...
Have given up my full time job to become a stay at home mum and would like to try and earn a bit of cash, flexibly.
Just wondered whether anyone had had any success in using eBay for a small business? If so, what wholesalers etc have been used.
Thanks

I hate to sound negative, but trying to make decent money as a newbie on eBay is so difficult, as the market is squeezed to it's capacity. I only use this site for getting names for my email list via 1p auctions.

All the best in what journey you choose :)

I've had a business on eBay for the past 2 years. I also had one for a similar time back in 2008. From my personal experience, I wouldn't recommend it. eBay totally favours the golden oldies. New sellers starting out are always suspect. There are quite a few limits that didn't exist before and the fees really add up. I think most of this revolves around PAYPAL.

Paypal have ridiculous holds and limits in place. It doesn't matter if you've had good reputation with them in past either. They use some kind of automated security and when they get it wrong, they do nothing about it. Ebay support often contradicts the Paypal team. I like to use paypal for other things, but for ebay sales I hate it. Ebay force you to use Paypal.

I agree with others, Ebay is very competitive nowadays. I now only sell items I don't want so whatever they go for, I'm happy.

If you are really serious about starting a business and have the funds to invest, I'd say go down the website/shop/blog route and promote with social media. It may seem much more difficult at first but it's worth it and less hassle IMO.

It's not something that eBay would advertise, but I offer a free eBook in return for their name and email address and list each one at 1p (minimum amount required by them).

All of the required details are listed by me in the description area of each advert.

The best thing about ebay is they send you all the customers, the worst thing is the fees. 10% of the sale fees + paypal take their cut which is 3.5%, then there are of course the listing fees etc

That being said, it is possible to make money, especially is you use the dropshipping method (when you get the suppliers to send direct to the customer), this way you don't need to hold any stock or deal with posting items/

I've been doing this for about 18 months now, drop me a PM if you want any more info

regards

Adam

I've been dabbling in reselling on eBay for under a year now. As a hobby and to make some extra pocket money I really enjoy it. There's a great buzz of sourcing items from charity shops, taking an educated risk and making £5-£10 pounds profit on a sale. My problem is I have never had the money to really invest in buying up lots of stock so any profit I make, and I have made profit, has always been a slow trickle. Basically its beer money for the weekend.

The reason I got into it last year was from watching the various Youtube channels of resellers up and down the country sharing their knowledge and experience. Some people seem to be making a good part time-full time wage on it but I think its a level that takes months and most likely a couple of years to reach. I still have that curiosity though of whether it is something I could do on a more regular basis if I invested more time into it.

I think that this just about sums eBay up.

Anyone can sign up and do it almost as a hobby, and make a bit of money on the side. To make a full living out of it, however, you need to think of it and plan it like a business.

I know a couple of successful eBay sellers turning over about £15K and £35K per month, with each having a markup of about 100%. They each employ a couple of staff and rent warehousing space for the stock that they import. The more successful one has an exclusive UK distribution deal.

That eBay is the sales channel is almost incidental. The real business is the planning, marketing, importing, warehousing, logistics and distribution. If you can crack that then you're onto a winner.
