This sums up my eBay experience today :mad::mad::mad::mad:

Your recent eBay transaction may be from a compromised account

l,
You were recently involved in a transaction for the following item:
283171957880 - Amazon Echo Dot - 2nd Generation White - Alexa Voice Smart Home Speaker
We’re writing to let you know that an unauthorised third party may have accessed the seller’s account to list this item. The item has been removed from the site, and the transaction was cancelled. We ask that you take the following precautions:
- If you already paid for the item, you may be protected by eBay. Open a request with the Resolution Centre and choose, "I bought an item. I haven't received it yet." You can access the Resolution Centre by visiting:

I
I've had this happen before. You can usually cancel the payment in PayPal.

Buy from moneymentaluk in the future. Far less chance of ending up in a compromising position ;-)

I had this with a SNES Mini/Classic recently.

I went on live check after opening a case and they pushed the refund through PLUS sent me a £10 voucher.

Helped me buy a full-sized snes!

You do see some poor souls on ebay selling items that make very low profits. That would be a pain if it is a big wrap job. You really have to gauge your profits against the amount of work done. If it is just putting something in an envelope and you make £2, fine. I would do that all day long! It's a bit sad, but you do see items on auction that sell for 99p with FREE postage and you know it will cost at least £2.95. Ebay are a bit to blame as they tell sellers to offer free postage to get more bids, but it doesn't always work out that way! I never offer free postage as you can often make a little on postage to add to your normal profit. I expect to be shot down in flames!

Yeah I fell into that trap around 10 years ago flogging things to make like £1.60 profit per item. Just not worth the effort!

This is one of the reasons I don't like Amazon for selling books (apart from their skyhigh fees) They set the postage charged to the customer (and deduct another fee from that too) but sometimes if its a larger than normal book the amount you receive doesn't cover the postage cost and packaging. Its easy to get caught out especially of its a large but low value book.

How do they do this? Do they know the weight of the book you are sending or something as that will determine the cost of the postage as much as the size of the book.

They don't know, thats the problem. You just get a blanket fee and if your book is heavier its just tough. You'd have to factor it into the asking price

Ah got ya!

Yeah I can see that as being a huge problem for book resellers as they've sort of got you over a barrel

I always charge for postage now. It;'s done no harm to my sales at all. The only thing I don't like is that eBay include it in the final value fees when working out what cut they get!

I guess because sellers used to sell an item for 99p but charge say £20 p&p to avoid fees. It wasn't good for the buyers as the PayPal protection would be for 99p even though the item really cost them £20.
