I am 100% fed up with selling on Ebay. I have people that give me neutral or negative reviews for the product instead of reviewing me as the seller. I currently have somebody demanding a refund even though the listing says no returns and it is no fault of my own. Its honestly not the way to go to make money!

Can you offer no refunds? I didn’t think you could.

What is it they are not liking about the products? Are these your own personal items or stuff you’ve bought to resell?

My profile says you can't return the item but I had a refund once - I think it is hard to reinforce. Are you taking clear pictures of the products and list all the flaws?
Pretty much everyone would rate the product you sell rather than you as a seller so no surprise there.

There's two reasons for asking for a refund. One you have to offer the other you don't.

1. If the customer buys something but then decides it doesn't fit them, they dont like the colour or for any reason they no longer want it, then they can ask to return the item for a refund. This is the type of refund you are saying no to when you click "refunds not accepted" when selling an item. Usually the buyer returns the item at their expense and is only refunded for the item cost, not postage. But it depends on the sellers returns policy.

2. The second reason for refunding is the one you have to offer. That is if the item arrives damaged, not as described or goes missing in the post altogether. ebay usually side with the customer on these and there's not much you can do about it. If it's damaged or lost in the post then if you have tracking/insurance you can put a claim in with the post service to get your money back that way. It's usually expected the seller will pay the postage for these sorts of returns. Best things to do is make sure its well photographed and described so the buyers have no reason to object when it arrives and also make sure it is well protected an boxed for posting.

Sorry, a bit off topic but ebay related! I've done ebay for quite a long time now, have had good times, bad times but since Ebay brought in their free re-listings the categories I buy in and sell in are totally clogged up with the same tired items being endlessly relisted.Obviously I'm not an expert in all categories but I know my own collecting category well and after seeing the same old stuff being relisted for over 9 months now endlessly I really don't understand how the sellers are not getting the fact that they are not selling their items because they are simply listing them at such high prices that they don't and won't sell! But they never reduce their prices and just endlessly keep re-listing. I really don't get it, I sell on ebay to make money, and yes to buy items for my own collecting field but if my items were still not selling 9 months on I would know I had a problem and adjust my prices accordingly. The stuff we sell is only worth what somebody else is willing to pay surely?

Some people I guess are quite happy to keep the item in their collection until they get the price they want for it. If it sells high then they'll let it go, otherwise keep hold of it. As it costs nothing to list. If they have enough listed using that philosophy then they will still sell the occasional item and get a lot more for it than they would have done otherwise.

If you're a selling as a business on eBay, or anywhere online you have to accept returns (aside from personalised items) to comply with Distance Selling Regulations. Just FYI.

Doesn't include second hand items sold through auction though.

I just began selling on ebay, been shopping for almost a decade so have good buyer feedback, I only shipped out my first item 3 days ago, my second one was posted yesterday, I only did it because ebay had the max £1 selling fee offer at the time otherwise 10% is a bit high, I'd rather hit the streets with my merchandise. Anyway hi everyone, I just joined, I actually joined to comment on another thread I was reading and being very entertained by your Reverend and some other guy he was challenging, I can't find it now but I will soon I'm sure. I will stick around though and see what I can learn and contribute too, let's get that money!

Reselling is my main gig so I can help with any eBay related questions, I’m not an expert but 4 years experience and counting.
In reply to the OP, you may not be the manufacturer of the product(s) you’re selling, but you are the seller and you need to be responsible for that. If you’re selling shitty products, then expect poor reviews. If you’re being as genuine and honest as you can be in your listings then it wouldn’t be such an issue, buyers would know what to expect. If you’re a business seller, regardless whether you say no returns in your listings, by law you have to accept returns within 30 days(or 45, I forget). If you’re a personal seller you don’t have to accept returns unless the item isn’t as described or faulty.
So just be honest in your listings.

Hi, yes this is what I have recently begun doing but I've only sold 2 items in my first 9 days so it's not going too well and now my £1 max selling fee offer has expired so I'm thinking about pulling the items where it doesn't make sense for me to pay 13-14% on the total in fees. The fees are extortionate don't you think? At the moment I have only listed items I had laying around the house that I didn't need but I'm looking to start selling brand new items that I'll buy in but though ebay has the best reach (after Amazon) the fees are a killer for a small fish starting out. I discovered eBid the other day (have you heard of this?) but after looking around extensively I've concluded that listing there would be a waste of my time and money at this stage.

How do you keep costs down on ebay, any advice? Thanks

On a personal account you’ll get 1000 listings for free per month, plus utilising the £1 max fees, that pretty much as cheap as it’s going to get! I never do auctions at 99p, if I do them I set the starting price pretty much the same as if it were a buy it now listing. Pretty much all of my listings are BIN with offers (lll add £5 to the price to offset offers) and I’m happy to sell at reasonable prices. Yes, the fees are high but it’s the largest platform in the UK and it’s an incredible tool to make money. My fees are getting higher every month but you’ve got to remember: the higher the bill, the higher the sales must be.

Happy selling!

Hi all, want to end an ebay listing and it's asking me to select a reason. If I select 'The item is no longer available' and then end the listing, will I be able to relist the same item again 24hours later without having to create the entire listing again?

The item is still available but I want to relist it during the max £1 selling fees promotion which FYI has begun now and ends Monday at 23:59!!

Thanks

Yes, four in total, the other three are;

There was an error in the listing.
There was an error in starting price, Buy it now price, or reserve price.
The item was lost or broken.

I can't see why not either but I'm concerned with my ending the listing causing the listing to be deleted from my account rather than stored somewhere else so i can just relist it easily (it's taking me forever to create just 1 listing).

My other concern is if I select a reason (which it seems I cannot bypass) that I won't be able to relist the item at all or that I won't be able to do so immediately and will have to wait it out. I'm looking in the help pages but can't see what I need

I don't think relistings count for £1 fees.
If I were you, I'd list it again from scratch.

OK let me finish what I've started here so everyone knows for future. When you end a listing the item goes into your 'Unsold' box and there is a button there that lets you relist. I de-listed more than 1 item using different reasons and the end result is the same so that's good.

Re: your comment above @homie, my understanding having read the max £1 fee T&C's (which I admit could be worded better overall for clarity) is that AUTOMATIC relists are excluded or items listed before the promotion that are set as GTC (Good 'Till Cancelled). There's no indication I can see that precludes one from ending a listing and then relisting it during the promotion in order to benefit from the offer.

What is still unclear (to me at least) is when do these automatic relists take place? Is it every 7 days? I've had my items live for about a fortnight and at no time have I been asked or informed about an auto relist but the items have been live continuously since I listed. Does this mean that if my item automatically relisted this morning (during the promotional period) that I cannot then de-list and then relist it and still qualify (since it already auto relisted)?
