We had a 70% turnout so was really busy. Kept myself fuelled with lots of food tho! :p We had the Metro Mayor elections in May too so glad it's over now.... well for a few months! Our poor elections team are running on empty I think, from 5am to 10pm most nights since May!

I had the chance to do it this year but I didn't have anyone to have my daughter for the entire day anyway, wow, those are some late nights!!

Maybe another year, it's not like the requirement for staff is ever going to go away each year!!

Heck you might get a chance later THIS year the way things are going lol

Just to bump this. I've today received an email from one of the two Councils who I've worked for in the past on the elections, asking for about my eligibility for next year's local elections, which take place on 3rd May. They are asking for a response by 31st December!

I suspect that they are a bit quicker off the mark than many Councils, who probably won't start recruiting until the New Year, but there's nothing to be lost by contacting your local Council now if you're interested (not all Councils will be having elections though).

If you've never done it before, you can read about the job roles earlier in this thread.

What could be a more enjoyable way of spending a birthday than counting votes? :)

Got my letter this morning to apply for roles for the council elections in May. Been offered the opportunity to issue & open postal votes this year too.

ha!

I've edited the thread title to 2018 and we have got our first meeting next week about Elections.

Big one for us in Leeds as all 99 Councillors are up for elections instead of the usual 33.

Sent out an email to my local council in advance as they tend to be quite slow, and I think give roles to people within the council and family and friends as far as I can tell. My experience of Chelmsford was brilliant in that it was a streamlined online form, but as I don't drive I won't be able to go there. Says a lot about the local authority in my opinion.

I’ve always wondered about doing this, I guess it’s a lot less glamorous than I’m thinking ha ha in reality not sure I could stay awake for counting.

I'd love to do this too so will have a look on my council website. Last time there was a bit of an OAP clique that "do it every year" and I'm not part of the clique. I will try and infiltrate.
