Energy bills - are Utility Warehouse any good?

One of my neighbours has recently become an agent for Utility Warehouse as his other business (events management) is on hold until Corona is over. I did him a favour the other day & we got talking, & he told me he reckoned he could save me £500-£800 a year on my energy bills (which sounds a bit pie in the sky TBH!).

Anyway, he's a good guy, I've known him for 5 years, & he wouldn't try to sell a pup to his neighbours, so I looked into it. I'm currently with EDF & British Gas, & I know I can get a better deal, it's just one of those things I've always let slide. Looking into it, it seems UW don't have a great reputation for some of their selling tactics, although they do have a fairly decent rep on Trust Pilot. I was just wondering if anybody uses them? I'm not interested in being an agent or anything, just how reliable they are really. Obviously I'll be able to see up front if their prices save me money, but I'm more wanting to find out if they're considered trustworthy.

Thank you!

As far as I know UW are an MLM (multi-level marketing like Avon, Juice Plus and the like) so the only real benefit you'll see is if you do sign up as an agent - at least that's what I've heard. I personally wouldn't switch to them.

Looking at your suppliers you'd probably save a fair whack, no matter who you choose to go with. I'm with Bulb and have been with them for years now! Other cheaper companies have popped up but for me, their green status and prices are enough for me to not think about switching - sometimes it's about more than a low price, aye ;)

I did a review of them and my experience, it includes a referral link which gets the both of us £50 credit but don't just take my word for it, shop around, check for cashback etc and weigh up what's best for you.

I haven't used UW personally, but if you go on any comparison site, you can normally see a star rating next to each supplier. This will give you the best idea of customer feedback on that supplier, alongside trustpilot as you mention above.

Utility Warehouse are expensive for stand alone energy, UW main selling point is taking out energy, phone, broadband with them as a package, cashback card gives cashback on limited number of retailers.

People better off shopping around for own energy, phone/broadband and using Quidco/TCB for retailer cashback

Last day today to grab £100 credit signing up and switching to Octopus Energy plus £30 from me out of £50 that I would get for referral, link is in my signature, no exit penalties on any Octopus tariffs, free to shop around after getting the incentive :)

Who do UW actually use for broadband, I assume they just piggyback off another network?

@ Jon, googling I found this answer posted in 2011, probably applies now lol "A variety of providers, i.e. who ever will do them the best deal on an exchange"

LOL

I don't get it, do they act as a middleman then between the customer and the broadband provider or something?

They will buy from a cheap ISP and sell as a package, getting a quote Ultra/ Ultra Plus £13.99/£18.99 plus £19 line rental both same Download: 27.4 Mbps - 39.3 Mbps (At Least 23 Mbps) Upload: 5.3 Mbps - 10.1 Mbps, superior router costs £1/£2 more per month, Gas and Electricity would not make best buy tables

Bearing in mind I pay £23.99 including line rental BT 55mbps with top notch router

Line rental is the BIGGEST CON in the Utility provider world!

I can't stand utility warehouse - when I moved house last year the gas and electric was all ready with them - so I thought I would stay with them until I settled into the new house. Had numerous problems with them - mostly down to poor customer service and not listening to me so I quickly changed.

I changed to bulb which I was happy with - but they increased the prices within the last month so I have now switched to eon which had the best rate to change to.

Thank you everyone! Mind made up, I'm going onto the comparison sites & looking into Octopus - something felt a bit too good to be true about UW.
