Never been a fan of facetube! Even less now..

So let me get this right.. in order to have a page,
I have to create it from my own personal account with me as an admin
if someone 'likes' the page' any new posts on it do not show up on their timeline unless the person ticks a box saying they want to my posts to show on their timeline.

All in all, unless I pay for adverts it seems a pain in ar*e.
Starting a grpup is probably not an option for me as I dont have many contacts on FB . Come to think of it, e being an admin wouldnt be much use as my page would only be liked by perhaps 10 of my 20 'friends'..

Ive created a different account at the moment but as @Ginnybean said, as its not a business account so facebook could closed it at any time
Twitter seems an easier (and free ) option but I think facebook probably has more users.

You've got it 100% right

So I have a personal account and I run TMS Page (as an example) and I am an Admin on that page

To promote it I think I've run competitions using Rafflecopter so '£50 Amazon Gift Card if you like/share/tweet' etc so help bolster the numbers. However be warned, interaction from people who do competitions full time isn't that great going forward but it may get you off the starting blocks so to speak.

I've paid for ads when I have something I want to promote and it does work quite well and you can claim it as an expense but I do worry that I could fall into the trap of it being a regular 'outgoing' which I don't want it to be when Google is entirely free to list on and User intent at the point of them finding your brand is FAR higher!

See I never have liked facebook jon - I have an account purely to keep in touch with family who have relocated - even then its one of those accounts whre I have it set so I dont to get friend requests, posts and pics visible only to family etc. I really dont like 'friends of friends' chipping in with stupid /'hilarious comments' about family pics etc.
In another way, my personal account would be perfect as my son has lots of facbook friends, quite a few with interest in the area my blog is aimed at so he could share the link to my blog post

You don't HAVE to have a Facebook page because you run a website.

I mean yeah social media promotion is important but your site isn't going to live or die by if it's on Facebook or not..

Agreed. Facebook is not compulsary, if you don't like it don't use it :) (Later on when you have more income you could always get someone to manage the business side of Facebook for you if your target audience is there)

I think that Twitter is great for many businesses, I've certainly had much more business from there than Facebook for my accountancy services business.

Also don't overlook Pinterest.
