First Mistake - Loss Limit

Well it was bound to happen - the first mistake!

When I set up the Betfair account, without really thinking it through I set the Loss Limit at £100 per day.

Tonight, I used my 4 free Ladbrokes bets then went over to Betfair for the lay bet I couldn't place the full amount required because the liability total of the bets I have on in Betfair would exceed the Loss Limit for the day. The end effect being I lost one free bet.

I've also noticed that I've used a match that I had a lay bet against already at slightly different odds.

Oh well - lesson learned

Good idea - match is tomorrow at 1500, which gives me a little time to research dutching :)

Or you could open an account with another exchange and lay the bet there - Smarkets, BetDaq, or Matchbook?

I think Smarkets do a free bet sign up offer, not sure about the other two.
All three are 0% commission too via oddsmonkey as long as you stick to their terms.

Just remembered (it is beer o'clock!) that Betdaq and Ladbrokes are owned by the same company, so may not be the best idea to sign up to Betdaq and lay any Ladbrokes bets there!

I really want to try this but I already have accounts on most sites so don’t qualify for free bets. Can anybody help?

Once you've done the sign ups, the bookies offer 'reloads', the simplest being bet £x amount and get a free bet.

William Hill for example do a scratchcard on Sat & Sun, you need to do the scratchcard and opt in each day, then usually the offer is to bet £10 and get a £5 free bet on either horsies or football.

The matched betting comparison sites list all the reloads for you and how to do them which makes things alot easier.

So....first week almost completed. £22.42 profit, although I have £30 free bets to place, a £10 refund arriving in the next 24 hours and £30 free bets to arrive in the next 48 hours.

First week complete...£41.73 profit.

Just made my second mistake though  D'oh - in a bid to use up a free bet as soon as possible I forgot to check the availability properly so when I went to place my lay bet - it wouldn't accept it. Had to wind it down to cover £2 less than I need to. All is not lost, just not going to maximise my profit on that bet :(

Mistake number 3

Went to place a free moplay bet. Set it up then clicked the Max Bet button thinking it was Make Bet. Saw the stake ramp up to £54 and so I tuned it back down but to £10 not £15 (my lay bet is based on £15). I could place a cash bet to offset the lay but as it's a free bet I'll take the hit and chalk it down to experience.

Must pay closer attention! But on gee gees the odds are sometimes moving so quickly it feels like a race to get in :D
