Hi all,

I am on my first free bet and it came up partially unmatched on Betfair - Great start! The race is in half an hour. I used Trickybet and they have said i need to lay another £1.34 but that is under the £2 minimum stake...what do i do please? Should i lay £2? Thanks in advance.

Hi [member=6716]lsully[/member]

I would maybe give it until 10mins before the race to see if it matches and if not then do what Trickeybet says

Is there a minimum stake of £2 on Betfair Exchange? I didn't think there was but could be wrong

This will be a good read for you so hopefully you don't hit it again

Did you get it sorted? Smarkets don't have a minimum bet amount.

It's not a good idea to use free bets on horse racing in the middle of a weekday...

For future reference there is a trick to doing sub £2 lays on BF. Firstly place a £2 lay at 'better' odds than you need e.g. you need to lay £0.50 @ 3.0, so lay £2 @ 2.0 (which won't be taken of course). You then increase the lay amount by the amount you need so from £2 to £2.50 in this case. You will then find you have two lay bets one @ £2 and one @ £0.50. You can then cancel the £2 lay and change the odds of the £0.50 lay to 3.0. Job done. This also works in the opposite way for back bets. Be sure to remember you are placing the £2 bets in the 'better' direction - in the direction that would be good from your perspective (placing a £2 lay @ 4.0 would have had it taken @ 3.0 which is not good, but would have been good from a back perspective as it wouldn't have been taken)

Thanks Jon I didn't get these replies until too late but it all seemed to work out as you said closer to the race, i just managed to get odds that pushed me over the £2 minimum, although for a good 20 minutes there were no odds at all, just blank pink squares?! I assumed Bet Fair had a minimum stake as it wouldn't let me place anything lower than that at the odds i had? I did find the article you have linked through some Googling and it was so helpful in calming my nerves thank you.

I am a real newbie and working my way through the Profit Accumulator beginners guide at the moment. I see Uhhhh you mentioned I shouldn't be using my free bets on a weekday. As I have only got to step 2 on PA I wasn't aware of this, can you please advise further?

jkg-jkg thanks so much for the real in depth explanation, that is the kind of thing I need and I will keep this in mind for future bets.

Completely new to any type of betting at all and thought this would be really difficult as I am rubbish at maths and mediocre on computers. So far, apart from the unmatched bet scenario, I am finding it easier than I had imagined.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, lovely to have a community that will help out newbies, I really appreciate it. Really desperately need to boost our income at the moment as although my husband works full time, a house move has pushed us financially. I have 3 children at school and 1 toddler at home so finding something that works around them really is ideal. Thought I might give this a try before having to apply to work somewhere weekends and miss out on family time.

Thank you all again x

But the good bit about MB is that your 'winnings' are tax free :)
