I totally hate talking on the phone as well.

In fact I joined the mystery dining one mentioned, and when I discovered you have to ring up to book your first few visits, I haven't. And probably won't.

what is it that's stopping you from talking to people on the phone?

is it a confidence thing or a irrational thing connected with using the phone in general

it's a shame that you can't take up good money making opportunities because of this

I honestly don't know. I can't see it being a confidence thing because in person I don't have any problems meeting new people, speaking to them etc. I've also done speeches in front of a large number of people, so it must be something specifically to do with the phone..

The difference with the phone is you can't see the person you are talking to so I think that makes a difference.
The phone it's easy to forget to ask about something or the person on the end of the phone then asks for some info that you have to then look for.
Easy to talk to people face to face. :)
If I have to go on the phone at all I write anything down that I think I may need to know so I don't forget anything.
I suppose the more you do it the more you get used to it. :)

Gahhh.. My life. I find it really easy to discuss my opinion and views with other people in person, and know I'd feel 100% comfortable being in a focus group. However, I absolutely hate speaking to people I don't know on the phone. :-[ I have been filling in a couple of these website sign-ups but they have been asking for my number and saying they'll contact me by phone...

I'll have to keep going through the links to find ones that won't call me!
Or just man up... :-\

I hate talking on the phone too. When they call, it's usually really short. I think they want to confirm you're not a bot! Just a 30 second - 2 minute call to ask you questions and then tell you a little bit more about the research.

Good point

when they do call, it's usually just to confirm your profile is correct

Just one question, as I have never taken part in something like this. Do you know if they have set times in the day when you have to log on or can it be done any time during the day?

Thanks for posting this. It sounds good and I've signed up.

It's not always easy for me to get out and about but telephone and online groups would be ideal for me.

Has anyone else participated in YouGov online focus groups? I've done 3 so far and quite enjoyed them. They invite you the same way they do with their surveys - you get an email notifying you of a new survey and after completing a few questions, you're asked if you would be interested in participating in a focus group. There's no guarantee you'll be picked but I was each time they asked me.

Just a reminder that focus forward operates mostly out of London - so you only get an online invite once every 1-3 months at most.

Occasionally they ask for people from other areas to come to London too.

Are you allowed to take part in focus groups if you're employed in marketing/advertising? I can never do those market research things they stop you for in the street due to my occupation, so I was wondering if focus groups are the same.

Doing well on these at the moment :) Had my Podengo one which was tough going... a lot of discussing exact wording of how to market a product. We were all struggling by 1 hour 30 into it. It was a good friendly group though.

Another last night on some new products, much more talking about how they'd work for us and whether they'd be something we'd use or not rather than the marketing side. Good fun and only 3 of us. Had to do a pre-task on an app on the phone.

Currently doing an online panel which is good as well. Well worth persevering :)
