Hi guys,

Can anyone please point me towards a good antivirus for laptop and smartphone? I heard before that AVG Free was good.

Also, is there a good free anti-malware app?

It runs in the background and isn't too intensive as some antivirus software. You can also download MalwareBytes the free version as that does a good job too for malwares etc. I also use Adware Cleaner - it's brilliant.

Avast recently came under fire for selling our data and many stopped using their services/products.

I have used Avast for both for many years without any problems. I previously tried others, like AVG and Norton, but they both failed me and Norton in particular was a resource hog.

I remember the time Norton completely wrecked my PC that resulted in me having to re-install windows again. That literally takes over your computer - I'm glad i've not used it since.

Are those antivirus, anti malware, free versions?

I'm prepared to pay for something like this but I'm not sure what to opt for. Having read several blogging advice blogs (on how to create a blog etc. etc.) it's been suggested to get both antivirus/anti malware but I'm not sure if that is for my pc or would be attached to my blog in some way.

Not sure what to get, any suggestions would be welcome.

Cheers.

I'm just starting with the blog - I just have the name and host. No substance as of yet.

I use Trend Micro Maximum Security and have done for years. It's not free but it's really cheap (a couple of pounds for a year I think) if you buy it off Ebay and the code gets messaged to you straight away.

Anti malware, Malwarebytes has a free version that is on my work laptop, so I presume that's ok.

I would say when you are making a blog you aren’t anymore at risk of a virus than normal - I’d be interested to see content that says otherwise

Hi Jon,

It's on the following link (No.37).

It might just be my understanding of it, or my misunderstanding.

Another site has also mentioned it but I don't have the link to hand.

Trend is also anti-malware on looking at the details on Ebay. I think I will probably opt for this version. Thanks.

I have downloaded AVG free version but when it tells me I have weaknesses in certain files then I can't just bin them because I need them. I have copies of the same files but I'd assume they would have to be binned too.

Understanding how to use the software without losing years of work might be an issue for me without dumping many years worth of work.
