I do wonder at the rate at which all the major coffee shop brands give away free drinks via apps / voucher sites just how much of the normal £2/£3 we pay actually goes towards the ingredients in the drink! I bet the markup is SHOCKING!

I'm sure its recognised that the contents of a hot drink (ANY not drink) is pennies. I remember when I could get a polystyrene up of tea for 25p from most cafes. Now there are hardly any cafes (in London, anyway) but there are franchised coffee stores everywhere.

The need to pay rates
Franchise fees
lots of staff

None of this is cheap so paying £3-5 for a coffee seems correct.

Its a bit like iPhones. They don't cost £1250 to make, but if you want one, they cost £1250 to buy. You don't want to pay that, get a phone from elsewhere.

These free drink vouchers are probably paid for by marketing budget (or in this case, a payment from the telegraph and marketing budget).

maybe 25p or 50p to the 'shop'

Once someone is on the app, you start to build up a profile. Get them to add their bank card and then you really do get some data you can build up and build app loyalty.

I'm sure no-one is going broke off these offers*!

I see that you can now 'gift' your free drinks to someone else.

So you could, if you felt inclined, set up a whole load of new accounts and gift those free drinks to your main account.

Not saying its in the spirit of the offer or that it even works (I've not done it) but it could be an option for you.

You lost me at download the app.

Why can't we go back to the days of cutting coupons out of the Daily Express. (and getting plastic toys in boxes of cereal too)

Ok Grand-dad. Can you fill the car up with 3* petrol, pick up some lead paint and then work on a building site with no PPE......

Buuuuuuut I did have success with the promo code in your tip at the end, so I'll take that as a win!

Are you clicking the link from your phone? It doesn't work if you try to get the code on a computer.

They also might have 'fixed' it. But I'm glad the other code worked for you.

:)

Thanks,

Yup, did click from my phone, I suspect they've cottoned on. Others may be able to verify one way or the other?

Thanks for the code though! Will enjoy my freebie :)
