Blimey!!

When I went to my sister's birth that almost happened, despite it being her 5th baby and her knowing what she was talking about!

She was telling them she was ready to push and then they had to whisk her round to the labour ward with minutes to spare!!

It doesn't make me want another - the memories are too fresh haha!

Ask me again in another year or so 8)

I think it's a really good idea to not get too hung up on the type of birth you want and just go with it on the day. I didn't have a plan for either of mine. I had an image of a peaceful birthing room with candles, music and a water birth in my head but didn't get that either time. The second time I didn't even get to the labour ward ha ha.

Sounds like you've got a lot of fab support which is so important. I agree with going along with the medical professionals but at the same time stand your ground if there is anything you aren't happy with. The MW at the hospital wanted to send me home but I refused as I knew I had a fast labour with my first daughter. They were still nagging me to go home at 4.30pm and daughter number 2 was born at 4.39 [emoji3]

It's so exciting for you!

 Why don't they listen to us eh? I suppose they must get some people who are drama queens...

I had my second quite fast as I laboured well at home - got to the delivery room at 6pm and had him at 6:35pm ;D my partner hadn't long got back from parking the car... I think he was in shock as well as me and the bubba!

Hah don't do it ;D

I spend about 2 hours a day (either being sick or in pain) thinking X amount of days to go. I won't pretend I'm really enjoying it, which is sad, but I'll wait as long as I have to ! Rather I was sick than the baby came early but I'm starting to get slower...!

Then again tonight I've done 3 loads of washing, made lemon sorbet, baked cupcakes, made chicken fajitas and cleaned the whole kitchen (a usual Sunday for me haha) so no wonder I'm feeling sorry for myself today.

My husband, who I love, is such an idiot sometimes... He asks me regularly when we will have another one. As if 1. It didn't take 7 years and 2. I'm not being sick every few hours

if I ever have a baby (heres hoping!!) I either would have to be gas and air only or a full anaesthetic c-section. Im allergic to local anaesthetic so spinal and normal c-section arent an option for me :(

Hi ladies, some baby talk is going on here! I have a 3 y.o. and I have sailed through my pregnancy. However, I found looking after a new born hellish. My son who is perfectly healthy cried constantly till he was 1 y.o. Luckily, I haven't seen any other baby as bad as mine. LOL He is still a handful and if he doesn't want to do something he throws himself on the floor and nothing can help. I had a "normal labour" with just gas and air, it was not as bad and painful at all even though I had 3 stiches. Upbring another human being yet is another ball game.

My wife was determined she didn't want to go to the birthing centre (local midwife ran clinic) until the absolute last minute, I think we arrived at the birthing centre less than 10 minutes before my daughter was born, I'm not sure anyone could believe my wife could travel in a car when she was obviously that far into labour.

Happy New year :)

I'm SO excited... Off out today for the last of the baby purchases... The travel system :D I've been researching for an age (because of the shape of the seats in the back of our Ford) and super excited to get down to Mothercare and double check the boot situation and what not :D

Then that's it... Ordered EVERYTHING else now (I think!!). Thanks to the lovely ladies here who have sent me PMs lately btw, much appreciated :) Nice to know there are so many supportive and kind people here on the Shed :D

Best thing... On my way out and my lovely Mum is like I'm giving you a few hundred towards it (which covers pretty much everything I want to order today).

Went out today... was going to get the pram we had seen, and liked, £280...

Turns out we could get it in the boot fine however it wasn't practical for folding the chassis down while leaving the carrycot on the floor to fold it (as it lifts up), then it turned out the car seat didn't fit either. We've ended up spending almost double for a different pram and a cybex car seat.

Still, baby girl will be super safe and they were able to fit everything into our car today, to test it all. Guess I won't be rushing to buy a newer car for 12 months now (hopefully) as I'm not spending £175 on ANOTHER car seat if this one doesn't fit another car!!

Super excited though, everything arriving Wednesday :D That's it though, after £1,000 in the last few days the shopping is done. So happy as I've been saving, and relatives have given us lots of cash towards it too, so we've spent less than I had budgeted :D

I do love the excitement of a new baby and the lovely teeny tiny things you get to buy - despite my littlest only being 9 months it feels like a lifetime ago - what pushchair did you go for? My 9 month old is busting out of his Cabriofix car set so got my eye on an extended rear facing one now the laws have changed, the prices on them are eye watering though!

[member=1257]chw86[/member] I'm only just starting to relax enough to buy/build everything but I've just sorted out boxes and boxes of gifts and items we've bought recently - really excited :D

I bet those 9 months have flown!

Are you talking about the Cybex car seats by any chance?

We've gone for the Joie Chrome and we've got for the Cybex Aton Q (£175!) for the first car seat! The prices of those really are eye watering, my husband is happy as he wanted the Cybex when we saw it demonstrated a few months ago ;D

[member=920]katykicker[/member] ahh it's so lovely, I still remember vividly organising all my eldest sons clothes into size order and painting a mural on his walls and the excitement at building his cot. The pram looks lovely - nice and compact :)

I like the Nuna Rebl iSize seat but at £395 it's insane, since the law changed to rear facing to 15 months I think most people are gonna be forced to buy something like that, as the infant carriers are tiny. My older boys went into forward facing isofix seats at about 12 months but I won't be able to this time around, I'd better get making some more £s to cover it!! Have you got a baby carrier for baba? We swear by ours!

[member=1257]chw86[/member] Thanks. I am super limited for the pram because I live in a top floor flat and don't want to move for around 2 years or so (when we want to buy)... So I need something where I can put the carrycot on the floor for the first few months, without it lifting in on itself, and also where the chassis can be put down easily and is light enough to get up the stairs (no lift).

So exciting to get all the prep work done, really been enjoying the last week or two. Been told to pack my hospital bag just in case so did the shopping for that too this week :) Feeling real now - especially when I posted my maternity paperwork off!

The change in the law is difficult isn't it, obviously it is for safety, so fair enough, but like you say so much money. The other thing is the worry that you spend all that money and someone dinks your car and you're recommended to buy another one 'just to be on the safe side'.

I haven't got a carrier yet but I want to get one, as great for going to the shops or to my Mums, what one do you have please? I like the Baby Bjorn One I think it is, but wanted to be able to try a few in store ideally as my husband is tall and I'm small!

[member=920]katykicker[/member] I've had a few in my time (3 boys in 5 years) - my favourite has been the Tula but also loved the Ergo. The new Bjorn one looks good but I suspect wouldn't last as long as a Tula - they also have great resale value but not many places stock them to try. If it's any help, I'm 5'9, husband 5'11 and my mum isn't even 5 foot and we all wear it, very adjustable and lots of fab patterns - I bought mine here - http://www.lovetobenatural.co.uk/baby-carriers/buckle-carriers/tula-baby-carrier.html - give me a shout if you've any questions, I'm a bit of a sling addict!

We had an Ergo for when my daughter was a baby and now have a toddler Tula for now she's 3. Both are good carriers but I think the Tula is my preferred one as well.

We have a "Hauck Varioguard" car seat, which is an ERF Isofix seat, I've just found that Which have given it a 0% for safety as it failed one of the tests when used as a forward facing seat attached via seatbelt (not something I've used but still a little worrying). We bought it from Mothercare for £143 about 2 years ago (I think it was £180 and a 20% off car seats sale), I've just looked though and now it's £280 so I suspect there may be better choices. We also looked into the Joie Stages but decided to pay a little more for the isofix at the time.

I can understand why you're worrying. The thing with isofix is that it is only safer than a seatbelt anyway if people use it properly. Whether it is forward facing with a seatbelt or isofix you can still have user error can't you.

Our car seat seems to be a good one in terms of safety etc, and fits the car perfect. Also, it will likely be in place the entire time and I will be lifting my daughter in and out. The car seat won't be being fixed to the pram chassis etc because I don't want her in the car seat for longer than absolutely necessary.

Seems that all the rules change regularly, I know people can get annoyed but mostly it is because they learn more and more as the years go on. One of my relatives said 'in my day the babies sat in the footwell' as if that is meant to deter me from buying an expensive car seat?! :D
