We've got the joie stages car seat and love it. Our first daughter has just turned 3 and we have only just switched it round to forward facing. It's great that it can last her up til she's around 7 years old too. Just a shame it doesn't fit on to any pushchair wheels or that would have made it pretty much perfect.

My main concern with using the car seat on the chassis is that they only advise two hours in the car seat now, because of compression of the airways. That's put me right off and I just don't want to take the risk! I'm sure it is just over cautiousness but makes me feel better to have the Cybex..

Also, we saw a LOT of car seats online and supposedly fit our seat. We visited Halfords/Mothercare and there were only two car seats that fit as perfectly as you'd want them to! Shocking really as I went with our specific model/mark of car!

My main worry about spending so much is if someone smashes us off the road (happened 2 years ago) then we'd have to spend that much money again on another car seat just for my own peace of mind really.

We've gone for a Joie pram, I'm really looking forward to it coming (supposedly today!).

A lot of car insurance policies will allow you to claim for a replacement car seat in an accident, its worth checking the policy details.

Car fitting wise, I'm MUCH happier with the fitting of the Hauck in our new car then I ever was in our old one, the isofix never felt right to me in the old one, in the new car it seems to fit in nicely and doesn't wobble at all.

Thanks a lot - I'll definitely check into the insurance thing before she comes (wrote it down so I don't forget)!

That's what makes me so confident about the Cybex, it fits out car perfectly, no wobble and the woman even smashed on it (a lot) when it was in place (the display model I hasten to add) :D

Congrats on resisting the temptation to turn your daughter around too soon. Research suggests that Rear-facing is supposed to be at least 4 times safer that forwards-facing at very young ages and most experts recommend at least 2 years RF.

The other thing is the worry that you spend all that money and someone dinks your car and you're recommended to buy another one 'just to be on the safe side'.

If you need to buy a new car seat due to some idiot crashing into your car, then you can claim the cost from the negligent driver (in reality their insurance company).

I can understand why you're worrying. The thing with isofix is that it is only safer than a seatbelt anyway if people use it properly. Whether it is forward facing with a seatbelt or isofix you can still have user error can't you.

Our car seat seems to be a good one in terms of safety etc, and fits the car perfect. Also, it will likely be in place the entire time and I will be lifting my daughter in and out. The car seat won't be being fixed to the pram chassis etc because I don't want her in the car seat for longer than absolutely necessary.

Seems that all the rules change regularly, I know people can get annoyed but mostly it is because they learn more and more as the years go on. One of my relatives said 'in my day the babies sat in the footwell' as if that is meant to deter me from buying an expensive car seat?! :D

Very wise words.

I used to travel down the motorway with my sister and I sleeping (unrestrained) in the back (i.e. boot) of an estate car!
People who make the "in my day" comments forget about the thousands of people who can't make those comments today because they were killed in car accidents during the early 80s.

Companies who promote the "Travel Systems" ought to do more to warn people of the dangers of leaving baby in the car seat for long periods of time. 1.5 to 2 hours (depending on which advice you accept) is not a very long time if you are driving somewhere for a shopping trip etc.

Thanks Jon, but my best advice to anyone in the UK is to visit a local "independent" car seat shop rather than one of the big high street shops. Independent shops will provide you with proper expertise and a long bespoke fitting session (at little or no extra cost) rather than the "advice" of a sales assistant pushing certain brands who has far fewer qualifications etc. Just google "which investigation car seat fitting" and you will probably never visit certain shops for car seats ever again.

Having said that, independent shops are hard to find in some areas of the country.

In the USA, you can safely buy a car seat online and then take it to your local Fire Station / NHTSA centre for them to install it, teach you how to install it and confirm that it is suitable for your child. Since US Amazon usually does free returns on car seats, you can swap it for free if necessary. Buying online in the UK is a big risk if you don't know what you are doing since usually no free returns and nowhere to take the seat for free safety check post-purchase.

This whole car seat/online delivery thing has turned into a bloody fiasco and I'm still waiting for 4 more parcels today...

When it finally gets sorted I'll post but atm it would just be another pointless rant about crappy Yodel!

Well, I've just been giving 2 months notice to move out.. my landlords have decided to sell the house. What a coincidence this is after we've been arguing with them to get repairs done.

Bf is saying that it's not valid until I receive written notice. But wow, I just feel a bit in shock.

We've been looking at houses together for a year now and either not found one we like or applied and not got it.
Might have to start looking at houses just for me and lil one for now.

Wow.

This happened to us last year [member=1020]Terriixx[/member] , it was so stressful and we didn't actually have a new place to rent until a week before we were due to move out! She did us a favour though, our new place is so much better, and the irony is that the old place is still on the market!

The fact we had a dog, many landlords didn't want us.

What a pain for you [member=1020]Terriixx[/member] - can't you get on the council list as you know you're going to be made 'homeless' so to speak? Worth a try at least?

Also, have you checked ebay regarding the kinder toys? Could be worth a few quid if you have lots?

Hello, how is everyone? Feeling motivated today? How do you deal with the days you don't feel that motivated about work? I haven't had any payments for two days, I have some unattractive surveys invitations rolling in my mailbox and I can't just get myself to get going today! Do you have days like that and what do you do?

I have those days sometimes. Tbh I tend to just have half a day away and see how I feel later. I try and do something else money related like bill paying, batch cooking and sometimes I just have a film day with my husband or go out for the afternoon.

I usually find by late evening everything is better and I can be bothered again, on occasion I have 2 days off. But obviously you have to be able to afford to do that.

If I have a day off I tend to use a couple of small apps to make a few quick £s so I've done something at least.

Thanks, Katy! That sounds reassuring and probably is better to get on with something else for a half or whole day, rather staring in the computer blankly. Actually I do like online money making so it is just probably being a moody woman! :) I think what gets me down at the moment is that I have 3 sites (YouGov, Newvista and Mingle) very close to cashing out but no surveys coming along in the last week!
