So for the last three years I’ve been working in a job which hasn’t enabled me to do any matched betting on a regular basis, so I haven’t done it at all.

I start a new job working from home in September and I’m thinking I’ll get back into it. So a few questions:
  • is it still worth it?
  • How easy is it to get back into it if I’ve done most of the starting offers?
  • How much capital do I need to get started?
  • Which websites are recommended? I used to use PA, but have some newer and better sites come along?
  • Is there anything I should know?

  • cheers guys - hoping to be a lot more active around here again

Yes yes and yes basically

There are some great reload offers before the start of the premier leave on Friday so it’s a great time to jump in

If you’ve already done the sign up offer with them then just push onto the reloads :)

You should be able to start with £50-£60 and just grow your bankroll from there

ALWAYS join a matched betting company! The sheer amount of information and tools you get access to will be off in the long run!

As you have done the sign-ups the main selling point for PA is gone. OddsMonkey definitely has better tools (especially the Oddsmatcher) and will be worth a look.

I've literally come on to ask the same thing. Used to do matched betting and haven't since starting a job a couple of years ago. Would love to earn extra money again.

I guess the old betting websites will remember me so can't do sign up offers again?

If it's been a number of years and your account has been closed down you may be OK to do the sign up offer again with them ;)

You'll know soon enough lol

I was able to sign up with Betfred again despite previously having an account. It did take about 5 years of inactivity, though. I must have signed up with dozens of betting sites back in the day. I wish there were new ones more often :D

I only have about £150 to start with so it's going to be a rather long slog and switching money between accounts, waiting days for money to hit the bank etc.

Yes, I imagine you had a lot more sign up offers than will be available to me :)

Still, guaranteed money is not to be sniffed at.

I'm a bit confused by the smarkets video tutorial. It says that if your smarkets bet wins then you have automatically made a profit straight away, but I don't see how? I have bet £10 with smarkets at 4.7 and laid at 4.7 on Betfair. Either way I make a small loss to begin with unless or until I get the £10 losses refunded at smarkets with their offer?

How much did you lay it for at betfair?

About £7.80. The point is, if you're backing at 4.7 and laying at 4.7 you lose a bit to begin with.

No you've done fine. Backing and laying at the same odds will only lose you your commission.

I make it that you should be £7.40 up whether the bet wins or loses.

If you like maths it looks something like this.

Smarkets bet loses: £10 stake lost but refunded as cash so you are back to £0
Meanwhile at betfair your lay bet has won so you have £7.80 (-5% commission) = £7.41
Total profit: 0 + 7.41 = £7.41

Or the flip side

Smarkets bet wins: £10 X 4.7 = £47.00 (-£10 stake) = £37 (- 2% commission) = £36.26
Meanwhile, back at the batcave your lay will have lost. £7.80 X 4.7 = £36.66 (-£7.80 stake) = -£28.86
Total profit: 36.26 - 28.86 = £7.40

I feel a bit stupid but how is that so? I understand if a free bet comes into play but backing and laying at the same odds can't generate a profit at the initial stage :/

I'm missing something, aren't I? :D
