A DESPERATE PLEA FOR REASSURANCE/ADVICE...

I am running a blog about outdoor adventure.

I used own name for the blog title and domain name - my reasoning was that if I ever decide upon a change in direction it doesn't matter - it's my name.

Also, I am a keen writer and the long term plan is to start pitching to outdoor mags, so the site would serve as a great online portfolio.

However - I am getting cold feet!!

I'm worried about a few things...
- My real name being out there and attached to the whole thing. Suddenly makes me feel slightly vulnerable.
- Am I restricting my own growth? Can't really have other people write posts on my blog.
- Is it just a bit poncey/arrogant using your own name?

I'm wondering whether to start over and change it to something generic like 'adventurenet.com' or 'outdoorvibe.com'

Is it going to be an absolute nightmare changing it over!?

HELP PLEASE!!

If you want to keep the Option available to change direction then having a blog name that is connected with your own is ideal, both @Chammy and @katykicker have done it and that works hasn't come crashing down :)

You'll be fine!

People trust a 'real name' more - its a actual person rather than a general member of the clergy. If you are blogging about your life then why not have it in your name? Its about you and your life. If you were really worried then it woud be less than £20 to buy another domain name and blog under that. maybe 'luckyJwriter' (or whatever) would be a good writing blog name. Then you could write about anything. Keep your personal blog for your 'outdoors adventures' and you could cross post/link between the two.

If you just keep writing, thats the hard bit done. If it is done under the name 'luckyJ' or 'The Adventures of Superman' it doesn't really matter. It takes 2 clicks to download an entire wordpress site and reload it under a different name. The other option is to use subdomains i.e. "www.luckyJ.com/writes" www.luckyJ.com/Adventures" etc but really, just write. :)

Ok. Success, I've calmed down.

I'll stick with it as it is and like you say, if I get a sudden urge for a rebrand I'll just change to name! Easy.

Thanks guys :)
