Just looking for the thoughts of others.

I have finally decided upon a subject that I can make a site for.

How do I get started now?

Can anyone give me ponters on the best place to start creating a website - ideally I will have you tube links and affiliate links, adsense and PTC - but first things first.

How do I start creating.

I have looked at Google but as you get bombarded with mutilple sites offering services I was wondering how the good people of the Money Shed started.

Thanks for any help

Cheers

If you are looking to buy a domain and web hosting I would personally recommend

https://www.vidahost.com

You can get 20% off as well by using the code JUSTASK at the checkout

You will probably get better advice if you can tell us what you want from the website or what you plan to do

OK.

So I finally have an idea for the site.

I need to know a good company for hosting.

I assume Wordpress will have the template I require.
I hope to have links to a YouTube channel I have still to create.

I will search for Affiliates and adsense.

So, I guess all I am asking is can anyone recommend a good hosting package!

(Sorry, I panic sometimes and ask questions - usually once I start typing I realise what it is I need to know!)

I'm a massive godaddy fan. They offer quidco cash back and you can get a domain and deluxe hosting for £35.99 a year. Then they do 'one click' wordpress installation. I've used them for From Aldi to Harrods and Make Money Without A Job - links in my signature.

This is my first time using a paid Wordpress theme which I got from studio press. I think it's well worth the $100 as it's responsive, great mobile themes and you pay the $100 and you can install it across many sites.

I've got some experience with Adsense, skimlinks, commission junction and amazon associates so feel free to ask any questions.

And i would recommend deluxe hosting if you think you'll eventually want to create a site with a different subject. If not, economy hosting will be more than adequate.

I wouldn't rush into trying to fill your virgin site with annoying adsense stuff yet etc. It's pointless until you get some good traffic and it may take visitors away from your site initially for the sake of a few cents.
You need to concentrate on adding good content and perhaps a few affiliate links first. Amazon are easy to get approval for as a starter, but many others won't accept you until your site has some decent content on it first.

I buy my domains from Namecheap.com for about $9 each (when i use the 10% discount voucher that can be found on the internet). I don't know anything about vidahost.com but would trust Jon's assessment. Hostgator is supposed to be a good host company too. I have heard that .com and .org rank better than .co.uk and others especially if you are not just targeting UK market (no idea if this is correct, but it's what I keep hearing from experienced people and no obvious motive to mislead about it)

I have chosen to join an online internet marketing community (£20 per month) to get training and unlimited hosting services as I start out on my IM adventures.

There are plenty of free training resources on the internet, but just be careful not to get suckered into out-of-date SEO techniques: good content + well chosen keywords + a few SEO tweaks + social engagement = ££/$$

If you don't know much about Website building, SEO and Keywords etc, you could try a free membership of Wealthy Affiliate - they will try to sell you the premium option, but you can just eat up the free training and leave any time you like.
Jon thought that WA might be a pyramid scheme when I first started posting here. Not sure what his current views are?

Anyway, I have been posting about my last 2-3 months of online adventures here >>http://www.themoneyshed.co.uk/money-earning-diaries/kristian's-money-making-diary/ and here >>http://www.themoneyshed.co.uk/referral-others/wealthy-affiliate/ to give an honest and contemporaneous account as I go along. The WA free sign up link (no credit card etc) is here>> http://goo.gl/1mYl0j

I get my premium themes package here > http://www.elegantthemes.com/affiliates/idevaffiliate.php?id=24135 (87 themes for $69 per year) - some decent themes in the package but a lot of rubbish ones. Many of the free WP themes are pretty good depending on your niche.

As for Keywords, you can get 30 free searches here >> http://www.jaaxy.com/?a_aid=b5fc4337 (FYI - I had a premium membership of Jaaxy for a month but have now cancelled it since I have gatherered enough good keywords to last me about 2 years and I also get a free KW tool as part of my WA membership)

Good luck - it's great fun and highly addictive.

I have heard horror stories about upsells and high renewal fees from GoDaddy? How have you found the renewals? Do these prices include things like whoisguard?

The first question you've got to ask yourself is, do you want to go down the free or paid route? The latter is the better option for the medium to long term.

If you want a free site then there are places you can go to get that and the functionality is fine.

http://www.vistaprint.co.uk/ ~ http://www.wix.com/

The paid option is better and I use Dreamhost for web hosting and domain names. They charge about £80 per year for hosting and £7 per year for domain renewal and it doesn't matter if your have 1 or 101 sites, the hosting costs still remain the same.

Are you planning on doing the design work yourself, because there is plenty of indexed info on Google about HTML and free videos on You Tube about basic web design?

There are some free courses on CSS and HTML on Udemy >> https://www.udemy.com/programming-for-entrepreneurs/?sl=E0AfeTFTKn0DLEwzBwZX&dtcode=bs1ckqb2 - Don't know if they are any good, but they are free.

You don't need to know much (if any) coding to build a wordpress site - you can pick bits up as you go along.

The problem with some of the free subdomain platforms like Wix.com is that they put their own ads on your sites (very annoying) and you never actually "own" the domains.
You can get 2 free subdomain wordpress sites at Siterubix >> http://goo.gl/WqMPvU, but you are limited to about 10 themes. You can, however, transfer your content to your own domain (and change theme) with a click of a button at a later stage if your site starts to take off.

Yeah it's hard to walk that line at the start with wanting to earn an income from the site but not putting too many 'income earners' on your site from the start so as to drive away new readers and potential money makers further down the line

Whatever you are in you need to keep in it for the long term, you won't be earning big bucks until you have a ton of content..

Some people even say that you should keep your aff links off the pages until you get a good ranking and then add them.
Hard to tell what is myth and what is fact.

I think the move is definitely towards bigger authority blog sites rather than the 1-2 page "hit and run" sites of a few years ago.

How about this:

As you are new to all this I will offer you 3 mths free hosting and I will put wordpress on there to save you doing it, as im sure I can do it a lot easier than you could ;)

You then have 3 mths to test/try it out and if it fails you have not lost any money from hosting.

I will even help you move the site after the 3 mths to paid hosting if you wish again for free.

Its a hard world to get into and I would hate to see you lose money but love to see people trying :)
