Hey - so I applied for google adsense more out of curiosity than anything as I wasn't expecting them to approve my submission but thought that the feedback might be useful. Anyway they've confounded my expectations by giving me approval! So I'm reaching out to the more experienced bloggers here to see what your epxpierences/tips around adsense are? Thanks all.

I’ve tried Adsense before but the account got closed down for “abuse of clicking” etc

I’ve not bothered trying again but then I’m not wholely convinced on those sort of ad networks anyway (including the one in trialling on TMS atm) as I always think people use ad blockers when visiting sites anyway so don’t see the ads!

Yeah apparently they don't like it if someone from your IP address clicks on it! Which is bad when you're trying to use it. I'm not expecting to earn anything from it TBH but thought I'd give it a punt! :)

I have it on my blog. I wont be retiring anytime soon on the income but I had my first payout EVER in January. It did include some YT earnings but was mainly from the blog.

I’ve not been banned but then I don’t click my own ads. That’s a good rule in life! :D

I believe a number of ‘proper’ bloggers don’t use it as other advertising partners pay more however they need a high number of page views a month before they will consider you.

These are the ads I see @Jon - they look well scammy and surely the sort of thing TMS would advise us to steer clear of  (I haven't clicked on any of them - sorry!)

I should point out that I have exactly the same ads on money mental as well...it's dynamically generated content according to your search history etc...the site owner has no control over it.

Man speaks truth

They are contextual ads that you see based on browser history / content of the site you are looking at etc

I WILL NOT HAVE YOU SPEAK ILL OF THE BBC FINANCE PAGE

I like the 'In the media' bit on the right lol

Did you spot the addition of the 'shop' in the nav at the top? I will not see my license fee used to fund a shop for the BBC! Haha #spotthedifference

I know it's out of Jon's hands. I find it quite fascinating what gets picked up. I don't usually see the tax ads and I haven't searched for anything tax related today - but I received a P60 by email (gmail) today. Scary if you think too hard about it really

I agree it is scary but I would prefer you all get contextual ads compared to adverts about sheds as the ad network decides every page on here is connected to garden sheds!!

Used to earn £200-£300 a month from Adsense and my ads only showed up 1/3 of the time as it was split with the site owners. But that was in the days before the Panda/Penguin updates when Google liked the content. Was nice while it lasted (we also had Skimlinks in addition for extra income). You just need a lot of unique content and the traffic to the site and you'll get those who do accidentally click them but omg the panic when you accidentally click them yourself! Once you've been banned it's almost impossible to get it back.

Yes I was the same on my sites - used to earn a decent bit from Adsense until about 3 years ago and it has been on the decline ever since. I now work with a company that uses header bidding which increases the revenue and performance of the ad units. I have only been with them for a couple of months and noticed a difference but you have to have a site that gets quite a few unique visitors
