I know a little and that is most brands tend to ask for your PR ranking. Apparently they don't update often, so you could be stuck with a PR 0 for months even though you qualify for a PR 1. Some people on here might be able to tell you a little more.

PageRank is Google's ranking of how important a page is in the context of the web, with a number from 0 to 10.

There are only a handful of PR 10 websites, a fewer more PR 9, etc. down to millions of PR0/1 websites.

The higher a page's PR, the more influence it has on Google's search results, both on its own and on the other websites it links to.

The amount of links to a webpage is the main factor in that page's PR, as well as the PR of those pages linking in.

That website hurt my eyes - far too many "Buy backlinks" banners for my tastes!

Page Rank is going out of fashion and the general trend is towards using more sophisticated ways to rank sites based upon content rather than links >>

Very true, PR used to be all the rage but I don't think I've checked my sites' rankings in years now and no one else seems to care either.

Perhaps we should create a cyber-bin for PageRank, Alexa Rankings and other assorted SEO stuff?

Anything that puts content ahead of PR and backlinks is good in my eyes. Yet, people still insist on trying to "game" Google. Private Blog Networks (PBNs) seem to be the latest fad and I fully hope and expect to hear lots of people crying about getting punished for it in 6-12 months time.

Elaborate webs of deceit - all the rage at the moment >> http://nichesiteproject.com/private-blog-networks/

But, I agree with Nathaniell >> http://onemorecupof-coffee.com/private-blog-networks/

PS. I used Nat's link to join WA and he has been a great help - I love the fact that doesn't get involved in this link-building nonsense and just concentrates on content, content, content and still manages to make a very good living as an affiliate marketer.

Content, fresh and original should always be key, but to ignore backlinks completely isn't wise IMO, as sites like Yell.com current Google pank rank of 7) and other online directories have built their business around that and continue to do well.

A few high PR contextual links pointing back towards your site is fine, but a lot of people prefer to take a safer route with You Tube videos, FB pages, articles.........

Matt Cutts and the rest of the egotistical maniacs that work in the Google programming department won't elaborate much when it comes to quality backlinks, which kind of gives you the answer 8)
