An awful lot of my money is spent on food shopping and I waste far too much, so I need to be more organised with how I shop and with meal planning. One of the things I really feel would help is an app that me and my other half could both have on our phones so when we run out of something either one of us can add it to a shopping list. I’ve looked on App Store but nothing really jumped out at me. Any suggestions?

Are you spending too much when you are “in store”?

If so could you do online shopping online and then use amazon prime NOW for bits and bobs

I’m actually better shopping in store! My problem is that I need somewhere to make a central shopping list, so when she says we need something she can just add it to the list, and not expect my ADHD brain to compute and remember it!!
I just need to be more organised but this is a skill I lack!!

We use google drive... we have a set of sheets dedicated to the house, one sheet has recipes with links to online instructions or to one of our books.... this makes it easier to know where to look for what we need for the weeks meals. Underneath we plan meals for the week and make a shopping list - we both can access and edit the sheets, so can add to it up until we need to buy.
We have just started using mysupermarket app (hope i can put that here) which compares your shop across supermarkets - we just switched to tesco and are saving £20+ a week (we have 2 teens in the house too).

@Tamrk thanks for this. Sounds like you have some great idea for keeping things in check. I’ll have a look at that app. Saving £20 per week is quite significant!

I write a weekly list on a piece of paper and take it shopping with me.

Why do people need an app for everything these days.

We have a shared Google spreadsheet with about ten week's worth of dinners and links to recipes. Each weeks' menu is broken down into what to have each day of the week as I need easy meals some days due to having kids but also want a balanced diet so have some veggie, meat, fish etc. I batch cook for some of these days and can then allocate a random "freezer dinner" once a week. The spreadsheet means that I only need to do top up shops for milk, bread etc. I usually shop for a fortnight's groceries at a time so I simply filter two weeks that I fancy and then do my shop online. I tried doing weekly shop but found that I'm actually not that much more for a fortnight shop so just opt for that instead.

Sorry, for the essay ^^^ ! In terms of a list, we use Google Keep and have a shared "To Buy" list which we just add to. I look at that if I'm going in for a top up shop and also just prior to doing the online shop. We found Lidl to be the best in terms of price but they don't do online shopping (and that is much easier with two kids under three years) so it's Tesco for us too.

We've got a pen and paper stuck on the fridge. Anything runs out, we just write it down. Totally old school here lol.
I have memories of being a kid and going to the BIG SAINSBURY'S in Norwich and doing the weekly shop with my dad which would involve him taking a last of things Mum had written down for him and WOE BE TOLD IF HE GOES 'OFF LIST'!!!

Which happened more often than not!

We both have iphones so use 'notes' in that and share 1 note. This way not only can we add items as required, we can mark things off when we pick them up in the shop.

I'm sure there are similar 'group work' apps on the android store.

I painted the cupboard door above the fridge with blackboard paint, stuck some chalk there so anyone can add what they need, as I pass to go out a make a paper note of what we need, again old school sometimes works. But wow I applaud the members who have spreadsheets etc, how wonderful.

I've started using an app called Airtime Rewards, it links to your normal credit/debit card then every time you buy stuff at big brands like Waitrose, Boots, B&Q, Argos (and loads others) you get credit paid towards your phone bill - Just from doing my normal shopping, I've been able to automatically save £10 this month on my phone bill. Highly recommend!

Yep.. I do the same thing! I hate shopping and so I write the list in the same order I go round the store so I can spend the absolute minimum time in the shop (my other half thinks it is highly amusing..).
