Starting a blog or podcast has been something I've wanted to do for a while. Initially it wasn't as a money making idea but a labour of love because I wanted to provide a resource for people who were interested in shorthand. There's a dearth of resources (I'm not saying there aren't any by the way). Shorthand of course is a declining skill. Long gone are the days when "Shorthand and typing" were "such useful skills for a girl" - a bit sexist in retrospect. I'd still like to provide a resource for shorthand writers even if it's a minority interest now. There is a belief that shorthand has a skill helps keep one alert in later life so that's another reason for me to maintain the skill even if as a hobby. Of course I'd LOVE to be able to earn some money from a blog site.
I have become aware of a platform called Medium where writers or would-be writers can publish (I think you have to pay something like $5 a month to join - of course I'd have to check that if I actually decided to go through with it. I don't really think Medium would be the place to try and publish shorthand-centric material though. I wondered if anyone had experience of using Medium and could say whether or not they had found it useful.
