Hi all,

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself as I'm new to the forum :) Hope this is in the right place as I couldn't find an introductions board...

So, I've recently had my full time work hours slashed in half and I'm taking the opportunity to use the time to try and get up and running with earning some cash online. Big Thanks to Jon for starting this forum - I have been reading for a while now and its given me so many ideas and enabled me to find answers to lots of my questions so far (Although I still have plenty more!). I have also been really inspired by AlditoHarrods and Katykicker - spent a lot of time reading your blogs and I'm really inspired by the success both you ladies have had. :D

I am in the preliminary stages of this new venture at the moment and I still have lots and lots of questions, some of which I'm sure I'll post on here if I can't find the answers myself. Totally appreciate all the free info on sites like this and look forward to hopefully being able to give something back soon as I start to get my head around all this! :)

Hi Sarah Lu its scary when that happens isn't it! On the other hand though its also liberating! Have you decided what you are going to try first to earn money from home ?

Thanks all for the warm welcome.

Yes sparkleandshine, it is a little scary but I've wanted to work from home for a long time for various reasons and now, while I've still got a regular part time salary I think it is the right time for me to give it a proper go. If I can't make it work then I'll have to try and find full time work in the outside world but at least I'll know I tried :)

I kind of have a plan (ish!)...I'm going to try and aim to have one major source of home income, so I envisage that at the moment being some kind of search engine evaluation type work. (Have already applied to one company a couple of days ago). If it doesn't work out with one of the main companies in that area then I'll fall back on to audio typing for now. I'll also try to get a few 'mid-range' sources of income from things like website testing, mobile apps and freelance writing. This will then be topped up with smaller things such as surveys, GPT sites, cashback etc.

I think its just a case of trial and error and seeing what works best for me and what I can get! In order to be comfortably enough off and convince my other half that this is a do-able option along with my part time salary, I need to try and earn £100 a week (after tax ideally, but before would be an ok start!). I'm not sure if it will all pan out or how realistic this all is. From what I can gather, if you can get a job doing SEE then its very do-able, if not then I'm not so sure? I am quite motivated and determined at the moment so I have everything crossed!

Many people on here don't work as a web search evaluator and easily earn £100 a week +

Hi SarahLu
Welcome to this brilliant forum! I have researched online audio transcription for quite a while and from what I've read £100 per week should definitely be doable. How many hours do you think you would be able to do it. I think you can expect to earn between £8-10+ ph for a lot of the companies. :)
Hope you manage to find something soon.

Hi Sarah,

I'm new too but I have been working from home since October 2011 and get the bulk (80%+ of my income) from freelance writing so if you're interested in this area please ask as many questions as you like - I'm the main wage earner in our home and we have two little girls so I feel like I'm doing all right haha!!

Hope you find some solutions that work for you :)

bordercolliefan, I have 15-20 hours so hopefully a decent enough chunk of time to earn some money!

Wow thewritesprite, that's fantastic. What sort of writing do you do? I'm very interested in freelance writing, I'm still researching it all at the moment and currently all I have done is submitted a sample of my writing to Textbroker (still waiting to hear back). If you have any other websites you would recommend that would be brilliant. :)

Hi Sarah :)

I started mainly business blogging for a range of different companies but now seem to do a lot of product description work and still the same old blogging - it's always changing. When I first started out I was using oDesk a fair bit (rates a bit a depressing but it got my portfolio going) and I search regularly on Twitter and Google just in case something comes up - I found one of my most regular clients who has been with me since 2012 by Googling! People Per Hour is the only website I use these days and it's usually when my contracts/big projects come to an end and I need a little top up! If I can help at all just let me know - I'm on Twitter/have a biz website which I'm happy to share but not sure of forum rules?! Will share with you if I'm allowed.

Thanks :)
