Hi, @sdlbh14 - sorry if I confused things with my post and link about the £1,000 stuff, I didn't mean too but at least you have had answers from it.

I think @Ginnybean has a good suggestion of applying straight away if you intend to go over £1,000/view it as self employed or if it is just a hobby leave it until you need to.

When I registered for self-assessment it was considered the correct thing to do if you did ANY surveys etc. - they have brought the £1,000 tier in since then.

Good luck :)

Hey!

It is scary at first and then I just panicked and thought I was going to make a mistake, even though I made £200 profit without a single mistake. Funny how the brain works! But don't worry about the maths part - I am awful at maths and didn't really find that side an issue as it is all done for you. Worth a look though.

What survey sites do you use at the moment?

Thanks for that I'm definitely going to give it a go, it would be silly not to. I'm doing surveys and want to get into mystery shopping and have downloaded a couple of apps.

Nope, all good, you didn't confuse me. I'd read about the £1000 thing before but just wanted to make sure as it isn't something I want to be doing wrong. All of you have been very helpful and I appreciate that :D

I'm also a newbie, I hope to get started on matched betting at the end of the month but I'm absolutely terrified. I'm terrible with numbers and maths so I'm scared I will mess it up. However I'm still going to give it a go. I also complete surveys at the moment as well.
Hi Tam Tam. I paid for my computer, printer etc. all by matched betting and it is very easy. Just follow what Jon advises.

I'm only on Prolific out of these and I'm really liking it so far. What are your thoughts on the others?

Ooh try branded survey as well.populus live is good but I haven't really got started on the others yet. I do see other members using the others and making some money so you should definitely give them a go.

I registered as self employed but only earned £600 in my first year. What do I need to do now, do i re-register as self employed and register again when my earnings reach £1000? Thanks :)

Hi, @Jaxx01 - I got a reminder email from the Tax office earlier in the year about my self assessment.
I logged into my Government Gateway account. You can go via:

https://www.gov.uk/self-assessment-tax-returns/who-must-send-a-tax-return

scroll down to 'If you've been told to send a tax return' and click on the blue 'online' link.
This will take you to:

https://www.access.tax.service.gov.uk/login/signin/creds

to sign into your Government Gateway account.

Log in and look for something along the lines of 'Self Assessment, Request the removal of Self Assessment'.
(can't tell you exact location as I'm not logged into my account).

You then need to complete the details - I said I completed a SA return last year as I did online surveys etc and earned approx. £xx but fully expected to earn a lot less than that this year as I had not done many.

I got a letter a couple of weeks later to confirm I no longer had to complete one.

Obviously if my circumstances change, I need to do one again, and let them know.

Hope this helps :)
