All this talk of Looms and Moshi Monsters got me thinking about all the crazes and hobbies that I indulged in during the 80s.

There are too many to mention, but one that I would love to try again is roller skating.

I used to live in my skates as a young teenager - even used to do my paper round on them! For some reason I chose these rather ugly white, yellow and green hockey socks to go over the boot part of the skates - very camp

Anyway, I am seriously tempted to take the kids here at the weekend >> http://www.skatersclub.btck.co.uk/WeeklySkatingSessions/NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE

Anyone else have hobbies to confess?

I loved my roller boots!! I think the only ones the did back then were those blue ones with yellow, white and red stripes on. I even bought my daughter a pair (pink and white ones though-she turned her nose up at the retro ones).

That skating thing looks canny. I remember Whitley Bay roller rink......ahhh the good old days.

My hobbies back in the day were gaming (spectrum 128k) and paying on my trimball, as well as roller booting of course.

I had all of these in the 90's so they kept going for a while I think it really is in the last 10 years that things have progressed in leaps and bounds!

128k! - that's a high powered machine.
I thought I was top dog with my 48k hard keyboard version 8)

My boys are well up for the roller skating - I wonder if i will still be able to do it.
If you're going to put roller skates on ay 39 years of age, you need a certain level of competence to avoid looking like a total [insert own insult here].

Wow, I had forgotten about the snoopy game - my sister had one and it was very addictive.

Those are not roller skates - they are child ankle breaking torture devices.

Uncle Gary bought a view finder for my kids recently - they loved it.

I was born in the 80s so too young for teenage things.

We had an Amiga 500. That was probably the 90s even.

The 63336-er in me wants to research 80s toys. Rubik's Cube? I had some roller boots too and a chopper bike. They were weird!

And about 12 shell suits. ::) ;D

We had something before the Amiga but I forget what? Amstrad? Atari?

Shell suits? Were they the 90s? I work things out based on when I lived where. I moved house when I was 10, so 91, and I definitely had the shell suits in the first house.

I remembered something: a toy kitchen play set, with food (burgers, cake etc) and plates and they had a smell. Kind of like play-doh. Fast forward 25+ years and my SIL has the same set from when her kids were young; it's 30 years old and still has the smell!

A red crayola table and chairs set. Yo-yos. Coca cola ones, Fanta, Sprite. Bouncy balls.

Wow, bargain toys. My kids are 3 and 2 and their toys are significantly more complicated/expensive (electronic!)

Wasn't that the al a carte kitchen where on the advert the little girl made her dad a Swiss roll with baked beans?

Okay - it's official.

This Saturday evening I will be taking my 5 year old twin boys roller skating 8).
I predict a humiliated Dad and at least 1 broken bone.

I will try to get some video footage.
Perhaps this could be the start of a new niche site?

Sorry I never saw your reply until now.

Erm, no I haven't seen that before. How strange. I can't find what I'm looking for but it's a little plastic oven with a glass front door (plastic glass) and shelves and it comes with plates and some play food and the whole lot smells sweet/play doh. Hard to describe.

I then thought of this:

And the Polly Pocket. Whole little worlds inside tiny cases.

I was born in '81 too. Must be the forum's official year.

I am pleased to announce that I survived the Roller Disco on Saturday - despite having 5 year old twins on each arm trying to trip me up 8)
Looks like I might be going back next week too!
