Just a subject to get to know everyone here and those who have been on holiday before.

Where is your favourite place you've been? Me and my partner went to Lapland in December, it was incredible! Hopefully make some money online to go back ;D Also went to Venice/Rome in the summer, Venice in particular was so relaxing!

Looking forward to hearing some places you guys have been too 8)

Isle of Man. Neither the husband or I are pool lounging or beach enthusiasts. We hate it too hot and I hate the cold so British weather is my ideal

I went for the first time as an adult last year (I was born there) and took the husband and child for their first visit. We're going again this year for the husband's 30th with our best friends.

Beautiful place, filled with history, great food and drink, and friendly people.

India for me, no contest.

I did date someone who lived in Chamonix for a while. Was nice to spend time there! But wasn't the same as a holiday as it was more long-term.

I love to holiday in the UK as I'm a travel insurance nightmare! I love Centerparcs mostly.

We went to Croatia in September and it was amazing. Hired a car so started in Zagreb for a night, down to Plitvice Lakes (waterfalls) for 2 nights plus a visit to some caves, after leaving there went to a bear sanctuary before heading north to Risnjak National Park for 2 nights, day trip to Opatija on the coast then back to Zagreb before flight home.

If you only did one thing there it has to be Plitvice: https://www.lonelyplanet.com/croatia/plitvice-lakes-national-park/attractions/plitvice-lakes-national-park/a/poi-sig/1019024/1318903

Whitby, you can't beat it. No matter where else we go it's always my favourite place.

The UK is absolutely stunning, many people overlook it for a holiday.

Personally, I haven't been on holiday for about 17 years (and won't be going on one until the dog "leaves home"). The plan is to get the next dogs used to kennels early, but with rescue dogs you can never be sure of their needs.

I've done beach holidays in the past, but would rather go for nice places to potter around outdoors, little gift shops, places to eat, markets, etc, and not too hot. I love France. I have immediate family who emigrated to the US, still not much of a desire to visit there though!

I loved it. Such a beautiful place and loads to see. I've put some of the photos I've managed to edit so far into a photo blog of sorts, so if you'd like to have a peek at some of the sights take a look: http://virtualwombat.com/photography/isle-of-man-landscapes/

Seems the locals on the Isle of Man Facebook are enjoying them! 8)

Can't wait to go back!

I live in Budapest and would recommend it to anyone...beautiful city, lots of culture and things to do.

So far this year I have a holiday to Greece planned in May, and a couple of trips back to the UK (for a wedding in September and for a few days in April too). Otherwise I have nothing planned as of yet, but my other half and I just like jumping on a train/coach so I think we're going to try to get to some of the bordering countries this year - Romania, Slovenia and Serbia.

I love how cheap travel is once you're in mainland Europe ;D

i went to Budapest last Summer and loved it.

I've done loads of travelling so its hard to pick just one favourite, but one of the most amazing I've been to recently is Burma - so many amazing sights to see, friendly people and cheap as chips. I recommend it to anyone!

I really like Turkey. I've been to the Bodrum / Gumbet several times now.

If you can holiday during school time (rather than the school holidays) you can get some amazingly cheap fortnights away. My parents go a few times a year and have had some bargains. One was all inclusive for less than £150 pp including flights and transfers! (It was winter but still t-shirt weather there)

I'm in a similar position as you having taken on ownership of a youngish dog (he is four now) and with no family or friends to have him that would be familiar to him, I've kind of written of holidays abroad until he leaves home too!

I've not traveled much but the last memorable holidays I had were in southern Turkey in the Fethiye region....one holiday was spending a week on a gulet fishing boat yacht, crusing the coastline and mooring at different islands to explore and take lunch in a riverside restaurant, then at night, mooring in a secluded bay with just the moon and mountains in the background, laying in a hammock and sipping a g and t. Very down to earth and interesting holiday. lots of nature and scenery. i then returned for a trekking holiday in the same area which was great but you still can't beat a boating holiday. it wasn't too expensive for a single person as I went with solitair holidays who cut out the single person supplement....meals were great, fresh fish and salads, you had your own little cabin, only about ten people in all including the crew who we socialised with each night over a game of cards and music!

[member=1]Jon[/member] my friend just spent three years working in Dubai as a secretary, yet she wasn't a secretary in this country before she left, I think it's pretty easy to get a job out there even if you're not a professional in that area....not really my cup of tea but I wouldn't mind a look

Burj Khalifa (world's tallest building) The Palm... amazing feat of land engineering... The Dubai Mall (beside the Burj) HUUUGE shopping centre features a massive aquarium in it with rays.. sharks...everything...100 foot long glass window... and just outside the mall at the base of the Burj isbthe musical fountain show every 30 mins at night...stunning... the amount of amazing architecture of skyscrapers in Dubai is unbelievable a trip on the Dubai creek amongst them is a must... Dubai is so easy to get to nowadays with Emirates flying from all over UK and great fares... 1 week is plenty there unless you wanna go on a camel safari in desert.
