So at the moment I am finding earning commission and money from links and affiliates has come to a grinding halt. There was a period late last month when it was flowing and it`s just stopped or i`m not getting enough interest i`m not sure.

I am also finding i`m struggling on where too put these codes...I don`t want to make posts about them on my blog because I just feel that will clog it up and make the blog something different then to what people expect it to be. The only place I am putting them in at the moment is links, I try and come up with imaginative posts like finding dupes or sales posts where I can link some more. I did notice when I had a flow going last month that it was during when I was most active, at the moment it`s at the period where the artists are writing new music, but on the verge of a new album release. So it`s not that quiet but it`s not as active as it can be, should be picking up around beginning of July. I have to note my blog is a bit different from others as I am dependant on others, I can`t pick and choose 90% of the time.

I`ve got a group on Facebook I post these codes on, A Twitter which has suprised me, Instagram and of course my blog and from all that it has garnered 530 clicks and 1 payment.

Where am I going wrong? How can I improve? I want too interject them on my blog but not in a way where I am always bombarding the followers.

I apologize for the mess of this post but I was rushing.

If you want to do affiliate marketing then you need to get over this hurdle.
If you had the sentence

'Jesse was wearing some blue trousers'
or
'Jesse was wearing some blue trousers'

It honestly makes no difference to the reader.

If you have got 530 clicks and only 1 payment that says to be that there is no 'intent' from the user. I know you are running that tumblr hybrid blog but can you access any analytics at all to see information such as location / age/ gender / interests / devices used etc to access the Tumblr.

I don`t know of any. Theres some on the blog but it only gives location, what page they are on or what search engine they are using and some other things. Both on Tumblr or Awin I haven`t got age or anything.

I think you are maybe going to struggle to leverage your readership when your blog is on Tumblr as you just don't have the level of control you really need to do affiliate marketing effectively

Would Google Analytics not work with it? I did come across a few others a few weeks ago but lost them now

Edit: I`ve got Google Anaylytics but for some reason I couldn`t get anything up on the pages

Google Analytics requires you to verify your site by putting a HTML file at the root of your hosting - I think there are other methods of verifying your site so by all means give it a go ;)

You sign up and use Google Analytics at Google Analytics

I`ve decided to take the plunge and join Wordpress. When I was trying to add the Google Analytics code to my HTML, something went wrong and something got deleted thus making the site messed up or it looked as though someone hacked it. After hours of fixing it I have come to the conclusion me and HTML don`t mix. It`s still without a theme but it`s much better then it was.

So i`m currently in the process of moving it over, I won`t delete it, or move it or anything until it`s all done and sorted. I have over 21,000 posts to import  so it`s going to take some time. I had a look and saw I couldn`t get the google analytics plug in unless I purchased the £20 plan. What`s the reviews on this because I want to make sure before I purchase anything.

Also any tips on getting started, is it easy as pie? All i`m looking to do, as websites are just stressing me out right now all i`m looking to do is import and add a theme and that`s it. Anything else I should look at or add ? Can I also get a customised theme? I`m sure I have many other questions just can`t think right now.

Yeah there are thousands of themes to choose from with WordPress

As for migrating content from a tumblr to WordPress I’m not sure. You will have to hit google or possibly pay a hosting company to do it for you

Hi @Emmaaar18,

Think about what your visitors want when they visit your blog.

You'll know your audience better than I do. But I suspect that they're seeking fashion inspiration from their favourite band.

@Jon's right that you need to think about visitors' intent. You need to match their intent with your aim of driving affiliate sales. Linking blog text can sometimes do this, but this can be ambiguous. We don't know whether you're linking to a shop, or the original photo source, or fashion designer notes.

Sometimes people need 'nudging' into taking action. Try adding text such as "Get the look" before the affiliate links list. Visitors will start to imagine themselves with the same style as Little Mix. It's this sort of psychology which will help 'sell' the garments (even via affiliate links).

Don't forget that different platforms (Tumblr, Wordpress etc) have their strengths and weaknesses. Tumblr doesn't give you the same level of control as Wordpress. But you are part of a closer community which can help drive traffic to your content. The visual nature of your blog suits Tumblr's 'reblog' sharing culture.

Moving your blog to another platform altogether is a risk. You're #1 in Google because of the 6 years work that you've put in. The Tumblr blog is a great asset to build on - moving to Wordpress is starting again.

What you *could* do is diversify to other platforms. You could start a mailing list, for example, so that you can contact fans directly. That would give you more control - otherwise you're at Tumblr's mercy.

Good point that!

I can't even think of a way you can domain forward without losing all the link juice, well I mean you could 301 redirect to the new site I suppose but man, that would take MONTHS for your site to re-establish itself in Google. I've been down that road a few years ago when I changed the forum software here which results in over 100,000 posts suddenly having a different URL than the one indexed in Google and literally all you can do is sit and wait!!

Thank you for your response.

Since I`ve started this thread, I`ve had one weeks worth of sales last week going into this week.

Although I haven`t been able to get Google Analytics, I`ve found another analytics site which gives me the information I need. So I`ve found out that the majority of my visitors are coming through direct links, I`m attracting more then 30 new visitors a day, Most of them stick to the one page and go etc All fascinating stuff.

I have been thinking about mailing lists actually, But I`ve been wondering what would I put onto the mailing list to attract these people? I don`t even know how to start one up.

Totally forgot but my instagram got upgraded to a buisness account last week as well, Great help can see what people like and look at, what they save, what periods of the day they are active...Literally everything on it, I can see what people did. The only problem for me is, is that I can see potential earnings through linking the stuff in my instagram stories. Forgot where I read but young people thrive on social media especially Instagram and sales have gone up because of this age bracket. But I don`t have 10,000 followers and at the moment i`m struggling to get to it. I`ve got the option now to promote my posts and it said it will give me more exposure and followers, but someone else who also got upgraded did the promotion and also lost followers so i`m debating it at the moment. More than likely in the future I will probably do it.
