There seems to be all sorts of different ways of doing. For us when we go togeather we just created a sort of 'bills' account but kept our personal accounts as well so that whatever we had for ourselves is ours to use and as long as the bills are paid everything is all good.

Savings is a bit different in that we have a savings account that we just dump money in and then when we use it on something we start all over again.

How do you manage your money as a couple? Some seem to just have one person IN CHARGE OF ALL THE MONEY and others are the complete opposite with different bills coming out of different accounts.

Are people less worried about this thing if they are just living togeather and not married do you think?

Does money cause many arguments in your house?

My partner and I are really on the same page when it comes to finances but recently she's been insistent that we setup a joint account for bills etc...it just seems like an added layer of complexity to me so I'm interested in people's experiences of doing the same :)

I find it a good idea if you live together and share the bills - just from an ease of use perspective. I have a standing order going into the account every month, which covers my half of the shared bills. Anything personal (phone, private dental) is kept on my bank account, and it works out foine for us.

Did you look into getting a bank account that gives cashback specifically on bill payments? Figured that might be a good idea with all the bills coming from the same account.

No, as my OH works for a bank, so we get the super duper account with lots of features for free as he is an employee so he doesn't pay - he also has to have a staff bank account for wages, so made sense to stick with that one.

We have a joint account that the wages get paid into and all the bills, mortgage etc comes out of that, but he has his own and I have one for MB and one that all the kids money - CTC CB etc gets paid into so I can buy their stuff from that.

Crikey, do none of you have any arguments as couples about money or something?

We have been married 4 years next month, and have still yet to set up a joint account. As he works, all the bills are in his name and come out of his account, except for my own personal bills, i.e. phone bill, Netflix, etc., and this is kind of working for us, but I think it would be much easier for me to access the funds if we had a joint account. My husband is someone that gets really stressed about money, so that can be very annoying to someone like me, who has been through genuine periods of financial hardship before, as he hasn't ever been without the support of his family.

We rarely argue about money, but when we do it's usually about whose fault it is we don't have a joint account yet, or the time he foolishly accused me of spending too much, and when we looked at my bank statement vs his (entertainment/buying for pleasure) he had spent more than me! :p

No, we genuinely never have. What we have works for us. He doesn't know what's in my personal one and I don't know what's in his. We both use them for the additional persona; stuff (for me that's my love of journals :)) that we can't afford from the joint and it works well.
