This is something I would like to focus on this year - I’ve been doing far too much high effort / low value stuff. I’m prepared to put the work in but I think I’m misdirecting my efforts! The past couple of years I’ve got to around 20/30 per month from 5-10 hours variable. I’m switching to some matched betting now but that’s involving some up front learning and thinking!
I know the feeling about this. I can spend hours doing surveys and reviews and I'm lucky if I make £50 a month. I really need to learn Matched Betting :(

I am on and offline all day. No set hours. I earn £200-£400 per month from surveys. I did a bit of matched betting last year but was so sleep deprived because of my son I was worried I would make a mistake. Plus having £100s in exchanges/bookmakers gave me anxiety!

Hope to start matched betting again next month so in the spring I will invest in a new laptop and apply for leapforce etc. My son starts nursery in Spring so I will have child free hours.

The thing to remember is that if you are just going to stay doing low paying work (surveys etc.) and aren't willing to try new things to learn new stuff then you aren't going to earn more money for your time!

You have to give yourself that payrise with self employed work lol
This is tough but true lol! I feel like I am so in that zone at the moment of trying to transition up this ladder

It can also be true that something very high paying but stressful could not actually be worth it! I’ve certainly been in that situation. It’s a life balance![/QUOTE,]

I agree, I tend to find some mystery shopping jobs stressful, maybe it's just me, but I have found it helpful to avoid these for my health's sake! It's good to try out everything and see what works for you.

I won £68,000 in one day so that was nice. I haven't blogged about it though as it was more good luck while matched betting than any skill!

If that was me I would probably wouldn't be able to shut up about it! ;)

To the higher earners (so probably @Jon & @katykicker, but anyone else too) what do you do about staying on top of the tax situation?
Is it just separate account for self-employed earnings and another to scrape the tax into? (Trust me to consider the boring practical questions!)

Well I only pay tax on my blogging income

So I have speadsheet that I put in each time I Get paid for some work and how much I need to put aside for Tax/NI.

That's pretty much it ;)

So true! I am currently trying a lot of the ideas on this site and trying not to get too bogged down with it all. It's slow going but I love a challenge!

I think this is very true Hezzy. Especially when you are working from home.

I assume by high paying work you mean a full time job you had that paid well but came with lots of stresses.

You are absolutely right about work / life balance and it's one of the reasons I dropped down to part time in my main job because I was just working 37-40 hours a week at work and then working on TMS every evening / weekend as well and was driving myself slightly crazy lol

In that case, congrats on your semi-retirement @Jon :)

So true though, work/life balance still needs more focus in society.

Yes, this is basically it. I put my tax into savings atm and then I just pay it a few weeks before the deadline in case of any problems.

I personally save for tax/NI 28% until I get to a certain point. This leaves me money left over at the end of the year because of the tax free allowance etc and means in the leaner months of the year, Jan/Feb I don't need to save as much if I don't want to.

I agree with what Jon said. Most people start off with the low earners and then try bigger and better things and then weed out what doesn't make a good return on time x

I've made around 50k in 2017 working online PLUS Another 100k from matched betting. I won £68,000 in one day so that was nice. I haven't blogged about it though as it was more good luck while matched betting than any skill!

Wow.... that would be a pretty life changing amount of money for me!

Yes I am definitely still figuring out what does and doesn't work for me, plus it seems to constantly change!
