Hey,

So I have my 2 new blog ideas set up for WA and I am writing content. i want it to be diffrent from what ive written in the past so I am taking my time over research and structure etc - My question is this -

How many posts would you add the first time? I have 3 almost finished pieces that could be added at the one time but will this be over kill for a new blog? Should I space it out?

What do you guys do??

I think it depends what type of blog you have.

If it is a "lifestyle" blog that will rely upon a lot of social following etc, I would space them out 1 per day and share the posts at the peak times for your intended audience. Having said that, there is no reason why you can't publish all at once and then share them later. I suppose this would be more important if you already had lots of people signed up to your RSS feed as they would get bombarded with 3 at once.

For a product review site, I don't see any reason not to publish as soon as they are ready. I have published 4 posts in one day during my crazy early days.

Awesome man, very helpful. it has no following. literally 0 traffic as no content and I am working on my social media advertising skills.

It will be a cross between lifestyle and a product review blog.

Thanks again!!

I think there is a different between

how many do I put up at first

and

how many do I need before I start advertising the Blog

If you are just going to let things grow organically then I don't suppose how quickly you shove up posts. If however you are looking at earning from the site from the get go and advertising in important then I suppose you would want the Blog to look as busy as possible.

There's no set frame. I would suggest having them written, and scheduled two days apart. That leaves you to sort out getting traffic and growing your social media following.

Good luck!

If it is a lifestyle blog, they do lifestyle blog chats most night, either 7pm or 8pm, just follow lbloggers hash tag and account on twitter.

I recommend focusing on Twitter, Google plus and bloglovin to start with- follow blogs that are similar to what you want yours to be for inspiration.

Good luck :)

I've lost count at the number of times I've seen a blogger post on Facebook, "I've launched a new blog, go check it out!" only to go see a site with 1 post that's typically, "this is my first post, what do I say?" kind of ramblings.

I've been guilty of that in the past also ;)

Now, if I was to launch a new blog I would have a minimum of 10 quality posts, social networks all in place (with maybe a few token friends / family likes to get going) and also a prominent email subscription option in the sidebar / header area.

When you are ready to launch - give visitors what they want. Articles to browse, links to click and a subscription option to stay connected.

Yes, nothing worse than landing on a "hi, I'm new to this - come back soon" page.
Good advice.

Since I don't do "lifestyle blogs" I think it's a bit more relaxed when creating product review / affiliate marketing sites. Since it takes a few weeks to start to get any organic traffic anyway, by the time the visitors start to come, you should have plenty of posts anyway. I certainly wouldn't bother with any social media (I'm useless at it anyway) promotion with a product review site for the first couple of weeks.

PS. Welcome to TMS - you sound like you know what you're talking about.
PPS. I love the look of your blog and the very subtle logo.

Do you make all of your money from adsense? I have seen other food blogs where they add links to where you can buy the equipment used to make the food (i.e. garlic presses, mixers, blenders etc). Have you ever thought of adding it in a subtle way to increase your earnings. I can confirm that the tactic works since last week I became the proud owner of a snazzy new garlic press, coffee pot and mini-blender ::)

Hello ;D

Thank you for your kind words.

I have done product-linking in the past, but to be honest, I personally find the income generated via Amazon.co.uk pretty poor (or maybe it was just me?!) and I got fed up creating widgets each time.

My income primarily comes from sponsored posts, social media work and also Adsense, although, I'm looking to change that up in the near future.

I've also partnered with a Direct Sales coach in the past and co-written an eBook and 30 day course on blogging in that industry, which was great fun, but you may have seen from a previous post, that is not an industry I have chosen to pursue for personal reasons.

A sponsored post is where a brand (or their PR company) request editorial coverage on my blog.

I only ever accept these if I think it's a good fit for my audience AND it's a product I would personally feel comfortable sharing.

Sometimes the company will pre-write the article, however, I nearly always agree to re-write these in 'my voice'.

In a way it's similar to a product review, except there is payment instead of product for topic coverage.

It really depends on the post, the social exposure request, the amount of work I am required to do etc.

Anywhere from £40 to £175 generally.
