How often do you clean your house?

We tend to be a 'as and when' kind of family now. When we had a kid at home it used to be every weekend but now we have a much more 'meh' policy when it comes to cleaning (side note: we actually do have cleaners that come every other week!)

I remember growing up my parents used to just do a 'big clean' around the house once a week and that was that and I think I sort of took lead from that but the way you see people on Instagram like Mrs. Hinch and all that people seem to love doing 'general' cleaning every day and I'm just not sure I could motivate myself to do that!

What about you?

Woooft, this is a big subject for me. I wouldn't have time or energy to do it every day but cleanliness is important.

Hoovering, dusting the main surfaces, cleaning sinks/bathroom - every Sunday.

I once worked with a guy who served in the Army and as part of their service were expected to keep ridiculously high levels of cleanliness. He told me to wipe the top of my doors and skirting and I was stunned at how much dirt gathers. So, the house gets at least monthly non-main surface cleaning too.

Fridge is monthly, cooker depends on what I've been making,

I stay on a busy road and there's lots of building work nearby. The windows would need washed weekly probably but it just seems a pointless effort.

See what prompted this was today we took all the furniture out of the conservatory into the garden to give it a good vacuum / clean windowsills etc and were like ehhhhhhhhhh we should probably do this more often lol

In terms of the oven we get someone to come and do that every few months who make it look like a brand new cooker it's amazing!!!

I hoover once a week and then again as necessary, I deep clean the kitchen and bathroom once a week. But additionally, I wipe down and clean generally pretty much every day as needed. I should dust much more often but I don't. My house is certainly not spotless but its tidy and no one would come in and be horrified so all good!

Not as often as I should - weekly tends to be the norm.

We’re a ‘when we get the chance’ household which is hardly ever lol
We have a cleaner come once a week so we are lucky to only really have to do spot cleaning here and there

I currently pay £45 a fortnight for 3 hours... I can't afford a weekly cleaner at that rate!
is that for one person for 3 hours?

We pay £24 for 2 people for 1 hour once every 2 weeks so £48 a month

It started 4 years ago

£10 a hour (£30)

then a month in they upped their pricing

£12 a hour (£36)

Then at jan 2019 it jumped up

£15 a hour (£45)

I can't take another price increase though, so I'll tell her to stop and find someone else if I get another price rise next year.

April, I think it was.

I think my kitchen floor is blue, but that's just a distant memory now.

Too bloody often! I do something every day to keep on top of it but never more than 20-30 mins a day. Much less to do now I’ve trained the daughter up! She’s getting good at the hoovering! I think part of it is paranoia that my ex will use a messy house against me. Never used to be this tidy when he lived here!

Could an ex use the state of your house as an issue?

If they did you could just clean it quickly and then it would just be sorted!

I have found this week that children with bad attitudes make really good house cleaners. My fridge now looks amazing. The mopping needs more work as it was like a swimming pool afterwards.

I used to run a cleaning agency up until fairly recently and we tended to find people expect the moon on a stick for as little money as possible. Cleaning is really hard work. I love cleaning my own house, others not so much and believe me I saw some nasties. I do find it difficult to juggle when I should be cleaning versus when I should be taking the opportunity to earn some money as self employment is never a guarantee and can be pretty opportunistic!

I'm pretty similar to you – I clean when it feels needed, not on a strict schedule. I used to do the whole big weekend clean thing, but now, it's more relaxed. Honestly, seeing those daily cleaning routines on social media seems overwhelming! I'm all for keeping it simple and stress-free.
