I'm trying to keep a diary in notepad at the moment of exactly what I have won/lost doing Matched Betting beginner offers with PA.

I don't have excel so can't find a spreadsheet to use.

I've never been good at maths and am stuggling to work it all out.

I just need to keep a note of the essential stuff, and not list every little detail of the bets.

Is there anyone else on here who has a tried and tested method and can give me an example, please?

Well all I like to is write the offer out, then write up £4.89 or down £2.87 (examples) next to it. I do this each day, then tally it up at the end of the week. So, for example a page in my notepad might look like this...

Sun 14th Aug

Skybet - bet 50 get 10 free up £9
Paddy power - spin 1000 times on Lucky mine get 50 spins on Mon down £15
Bet Victor - Freebet used Liverpool to win 2.2/2.25 up £7
Coral - Wager 20, get 10 free spins up £4

Profit 5

It works for me and I like to write things down instead of using excel

I don't use a spreadsheet either and I do the same as Queen.

I have a dedicated bank account for it.

If you did want to use a spreadsheet, you could do so using Google sheets, no need t have excel :)

Google sheets a especially good on the move as well.
I didn't even think to track it all. Great shout to make a spreadsheet or write it down.

Hi :)

Thank you to [member=2508]Queen[/member] [member=920]katykicker[/member] [member=1619]SarahLu[/member] [member=4231]fne707[/member] for the replies. Will probably look at the Google sheets when I have some spare time.

[member=2508]Queen[/member] [member=920]katykicker[/member], how do you work out exactly how much you are up or down? I am just starting on the MB so please correct me if I get any of the terminology wrong.

For example, I placed a £5 qualifying bet (QB) with Coral , which had a qualifying loss (QL) of 22p. The bet won - £7.50.
I then had a free £20 bet, which lost. The 'Lay Stake' (LS) was £14.12 and the 'Liability' was £46.60.
So my QB profit was £7.28 and my Free Bet profit was £13.41 - if I have worked it out correctly.

So if I have got it right:-

If I win at the bookies,
the profit is the WIN amount, minus the 'Qualifying Loss' amount (£7.50, -22p = £7.28)

If I lose at the bookies,
the profit is the 'Lay stake', minus the Betfair 5% commission (£14.12, -71p = £13.41).

The 'Qualifying Loss' is shown on the PA calculator when working out the bet.
It can also be worked out by adding together the 'Lay Stake' and 'Liability' then deducting the Win amount
(i.e. £5.03 + £2.72 = £7.75 - £7.50 = 0.22p).

Phew!

It sounds like you've got it right to me, to be honest I do a lot of slots offers, so much easier to work out :D

Thank you [member=920]katykicker[/member] - not even thinking about slots or horses yet. Baby steps for me :)

I just kept a copy of bets and the profit/loss on each one until I bought Excel and could then use Ultimatcher. [emoji4]

[member=4097]Darksideofthemoon[/member] Honestly it will save you so much hassle in the longrun if you just use a spreadsheet. [member=143]auntygeek[/member] has created a great one if you don't use Excel.

I started off with noting my bets down myself by hand but then wait until you have 10-20 bets on at once on a busy weekend and then the time spent figuring out every single number and profit/loss and you're just wasting your time. The great thing about ultimatcher (or alternatives) is that it does all the calculating for you and you just pop the odds and stake in and you're done.

Plus if there's ever an error somewhere then you know you can just check your spreadsheet to figure out what's gone on.

Agree. Would be lost without a spreadsheet. I just started back matching betting in the past month and there are already 100+ entires logged. When I started match betting the first time around, I recorded everything in a diary app. It's useful but doesn't really compare imo.

I had looked at the auntygeek one and thought it was excel only at the moment and that google sheets or something was imminent? I'll have to have another look, thanks.

[member=4097]Darksideofthemoon[/member] Ah yes, sorry you're right! I spoke to geeks and she said that there is one in development but not quite ready yet!

I already had Excel before I started MB but IIRC I think I bought an MS suite from ebay for about £20, so you could probably pick up just Excel on its own for cheaper than that.

It will pay for itself in the time (and frustration) you will save yourself recording by hand!
