"Anyone know of any ways to earn money online?"

I see this request out there quite a lot on various forums and Facebook groups and what not.

Someone posts, wants some help, they get the advice about how to earn money online and then the person asking is never to be seen again.

What do you think is it that scares people off from getting on and earning online?

Is it the fact that unless you strike lucky you do have to start at the bottom with surveys and the like and do tasks for pence?

I think the mindset of someone starting out in the earning money online world needs to be the same anyone starting in a regular job. You start at the bottom and work your way up to a better paid job title as time goes on.

Luckily in this field it can only take a matter of months until you are earning a decent hourly wage (assuming your lifestyle fits in with that) but I think those that want to get on this money train need to also be realistic about how much work you need to put in to get the money you want to earn out.

I agree. I see that allot.
I have seen many claims and sites about 'making hundreds a month from doing nothing'.
Definitely ones to avoid as they are totally false claims.
There is no way anyone will make a decent amount of money online without putting effort and time into it.

Yeah it certainly is a fine line to walk at the moment.

I am constantly promoting this site various channels I am generally met with 2 attiudes

1) Get rich quick! - Earning online is a load of crap and I don't want to join no pyramid scheme!

2) Too much effort! - I don't want to have to do 1000 surveys just to buy a new hair dryer

It is these two barriers that I am trying to break down constantly when pointing people towards not only this site but just the idea of earning an income from home (either part of full time)

Am all ears for ways to do it!

There's a good discussion going on on the green site at the moment

http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=4962541 ( I am shabbadoof13)

Trying to convince people that you can actually earn a decent income online each month if you are just flexible and become part of a community that shares information is a hard ask sometimes

There seems to be an evolutionary flaw in human beings.

They are happy to pay lots of money to scam artists who claim they can make them $5,000 per week from some bogus "auto-pilot" system, but not interested when you show them how to make a more sensible amount of money that is pretty mud guaranteed if they put in a little hard work.

Has it always been thus, or is it part of some new "the world owes me a living" culture?

Scenario 1: you pay $500 to a "get rich quick scheme" and end up -$500 for the year
Scenario 2: you work hard doing honest online work and make $1,000+

The vast majority of people seem to choose Scenario 1 and, of those that end up choosing scenario 2, most seem to have tried scenario 1 first and learnt the lesson the hard way!
I have very little sympathy I'm afraid for people that lose money to these scammers when they are greedily trying to strike it rich without any effort - most get what they deserve.

I agree. A good discussion a few people not believing you can make decent money on line. It is possible with a bit of motivation and being willing to be flexible and joining a Forum like this is a must. It is a real help to people. It is nice to see what other people do to make money online.
Others just don't see the potential in sites. If you can earn things for free well why not?

I think one of the problems is that the original question on the the green site thread was about how to make money starting today. That narrows down the options. The only method that I have seen on here that seems to guarantee decent money from a standing start is the 363636 stuff of you can get recruited (sorry, but I always forget how many 3s and 6s there are and which order they go in!).

I think that the the green site policy of not letting people post links or referrals harms that sub forum as you are never allowed to directly link someone to something

I can't go on there and say provide a link to skinnylatte's diary and say you can earn £100's from YouTube each month. Pop over and maybe open up a discussion with her

So all you seem to end up with on there is people being cagey and keeping info to themselves and if you dare to post a link it's MOD ALERT time.

So someone goes there and just sees a forum with a constant mystery shopping thread and surveys ones. Where then makes it harder for people to believe there is a wealth of info out there but you aren't going to get it all on the green site with its policy of never be able to link to things

I would add field agent and especially roamler to that list.

Roamler you can go and earn money and cash out instantly

I found that there wasn't enough stuff on Roamler for me - must depend on locality. Money didn't cover petrol to nearest task.

I have not had much luck with Opinon World, I don't seem to get many surveys from them. It could just be that I don't fit what they are looking for.

Been reading a lot of forums this morning..

Home based / Mum Based / Finance Based ones

These guys and gals are still everywhere. They post about how desperate they are to make money, people give advice and then they never return again or say they don't want to start off by doing surveys / swagbucks etc

Do you think it is just people want to quick fix and want to earn a lot without putting the hours in or are people just not willing to start from the bottom (surveys etc) and work their way up.

Personally I think a lot of people want minimum effort for the instant reward. Unless you get passed that then majority of people give up at the first post.

Do you maybe think they are conditioned to think like that though as their first experience could be from Mums etc all shoving franchise opportunities in their face telling them they could earn 'upto' £2000 a week flogging Juice+

I wonder if the bar is set SO high that anything less just seems like a hassle and not worth it to them

It sounds awful, but I don’t help people as much as I used too. Someone PMs me on the green site or I PM them after reading a post. They talk about how desperate they are for work. Then I find they want completely spoon feeding through the whole process. After a few posts back and forth they realise its too much effort for them, so then I conclude they can’t be that desperate after all. Been working from home since 2007 and never not been able to earn some kind of income from home in all that time.

Well said.
I wonder if these lazy people also walk into their nearest offline employment agency and enquire about jobs that pay £2,000 per week for a 2-hour per day shift, 5 days per week, with 12 weeks paid holidays!?

I think you are right in that people's expectations are way out of whack

Chances are you looking into earning from home as you have been conned into thinking you can earn untold riches via a pyramid scheme or people have maybe introduced you to surveys etc

There is very much still an element of "working your way up" with all this much like any normal job. It might take 6 months or longer until you get exposed to a higher paying method of earning money online.

If I can earn £500 with Roamler over the course of a few months where is no reason others cant, especially if they live in big cities but I just think so many people seem to be conditioned now to just give up if something involves too much effort

Don't want to be paranoid, but kinda thinking some of this is aimed at me and others in the same boat.
I am not scared of work but just because I haven't found any online work that fits in my life, doesn't imply that I am. But thanks for thinking this just makes me lazy.
As per previous post I have been looking on and off since 2007 but I have been doing poorly paid 'offline' jobs also and having babies who do require looking after, then as they have got older taking to the library, park, school, clubs etc etc.

Not living in a city, not having the latest phone or being crafty does exclude many opportunities. As I have pointed out before being in the same demographic as a huge chunk of people chasing online work doesn't help either.

I think it is great that so many of you have something that suits and works for you but ostracizing someone that hasn't is some what arrogant and alienates.

Nope not aimed at you at all

Just what I see across sites likes
Netmums
Mumsnet
Paidtoshop
the green site
Ukbusinessforum
Bounty
Facebook groups designed for working from home

It's not even exclusive to any one demographic at all

You seem like someone who is determined and keeps coming back

So many seem to just give up easily which I think is a shame as if they stuck at it they would get what they want

I have no idea why you think that this was aimed at you when the fact that you are still actively engaged in this sort of forum demonstrates that you are not part of the "I expect to earn £1,000s online with no effort at all" brigade.

My point is that it is not "easy" to make a living online and my criticism is aimed at those who think that there is some magic online button that can unlock untold riches without any effort.

You clearly don't come within that description.

To clarify, my criticism is about lack of effort not lack of success. I have respect for anyone that tries their best at anything whether they succeed or not.
