I'm guessing I should avoid this, but would like some opinions.

I recently came across an earning opportunity on facebook where you join a money board paying £50. You pay £50 to the person who is at the top of the first board and you (together with other team members) get referrals and move up the board. When you are at the top of the first board you should get £200, but you need to invest £150 of it into the next board and so it goes on until you are making pure profit - the opportunity reckons £6,000 in total but you give some of it to charity. I am a bit tempted but strongly suspect that it is a scam. What do others think

So this is a system that says you only invest £50 and you will make £6000 correct?

Classic pyramid scam. The problem is that they rely on an infinite number of people joining (which is impossible, of course).

You might be lucky and cash out with a profit, but you could be one of the majority and lose everything that you put in.

Thanks for the opinions, I knew this really. Too risky even if it is an out and out scam

The amount of utter crap on Facebook around “earning money online” is shocking but what’s even more shocking is just how many people take up these opportunities!

Everyone on TMS has been manually vetted before they are allowed to be on here and if I don’t agree with an opportunity it gets removed.

On Facebook there is non of this.

As an example there is a girl I know on Facebook who for the last few years has done nothing but jump from MLM to MLM sand each one is THE NEXT BIG THING and she NEVER makes any money from it beyond a few quid!!

Facebook should really crack down on this sort of stuff but since it generates them money they won’t.

@OCTOPUS - Avoid. There was a time those were all the craze on FB a few years ago and I believe PayPal started shutting certain accounts down because of it.

Pyramid schemes are illegal. If you're paying money to be part of a "team", to then work your way up, secure more people under you and get more money back without a product being involved then it is illegal.

Run and avoid!!!!
Never a truer word been spoken here.

Definitely avoid!

This sounds very similar to a Facebook group my sister is involved with called MassCryp. She's forever posting that she's got to the top of the board and been paid out. Other group members then chip in enthusiastically to back her up. I think most of it is bluff and bluster to tempt new investors. I'd be surprised if she's made anything tangible out of it and it all seems to have gone suspiciously quiet lately.

Yeah that's a common tactic. Once you click on one of the profiles of the people who are doing the 'cheerleader' role as I like to call it you soon enough that are in the exact same team / company as the person saying how amazing the opportunity is. Like you said it's just smoke and mirrors to hopefully get a few passes by to believer everything they see and come and sign up
